For those of you who do not know me, my name is David Bowman. I am the sole owner of Young & Bowman. Young and Bowman has been in Doylestown now since 1946. We are second generation soon to be third family owned and operated. We provide the highest quality Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning service and installation possible. We have added The Burnham boiler Co. to our choice of boilers. The company is based right here in Philadelphia and has been an excellent addition to our line of oil and gas boilers. If you are interested in a super high efficiency gas boiler the Burnham Alpine boiler will give you a 97 % efficency rating compared to 80% on most conventional boilers and add a Burnham indirect water heater and you will not only get unlimited hot water but enjoy tremendous savings on making hot water.Winter is now upon us.

We have used Young & Bowman for many services over the past 10 years - HVAC replacement and routine service, plumbing issues, etc. They always get to us quickly even when other companies tell us it'll be days or a week. They go out of their way to be helpful, they are reliable, friendly, I find their prices fair including when I price compare with other quotes. They have taken the time to teach us a few things about maintaining our home. Going forward Young & Bowman will be my FIRST call, EVERY time, for EVERY service they provide.

We scheduled them to install our faucet and garbage disposal. When we called, we were told to pick any garbage disposal, so we did. When the plumber came he said Moen is the worst brand and then told us we bought the wrong kind, we need cordless. When my fiance tells him that we were told by the woman he spoke to when he made the appointment we didn't need a specific garbage disposal, he said we can't listen to the office because "they are just two women who don't know what they're talking about". Yikes!
The plumber was impatient with us for buying the wrong garbage disposal, and said he couldn't do anything and wouldn't be able to come back for days. I walked out of the room and my fiance stayed with him asking what we should do - we just need to get a new garbage disposal that doesn't have a cord. So we call the office when the plumber leaves to see when we can get another appointment and the woman says tomorrow. Great.
Then we get a call back and the woman says the plumber won't be returning to our home because we did not take his advice and he's an expert of 25 years and she hung up on us. Steer clear of these guys.

No hot water at 7 am. Called Young and Bowman at 7:45. Was told someone could be out that morning. John arrived around 8:15, diagnosed the problem, had it fixed in 30 minutes. No runaround, no up-selling, no emergency call charge (even though they were out within an hour of my call). John was friendly, courteous, and respectful. He explained the problem and answered my many questions with patience and in plain English.
I later learned John has only been with the company since November but has been getting similar reviews! From Patty in the office to their plumbers and assistants, in my experience this operation is professional and conscientious. I called Young and Bowman because of prior positive experiences I've had with them. Both my mother-in-law and father have used their services.
In fact, John (the other John, not the one mentioned above) actually called Home Depot and took care of warranty issues for my father's water heater. As my Dad is older and has hearing loss, this made getting his water heater replaced much less of a hassle. We've used Young and Bowman for plumbing work at our home several times and their staff is always courteous, friendly, and reliable.
As someone who has used many plumbing companies in the past (including those who offer those "members only" special discounts), I can honestly say that if this company charged a bit more than their competitors, it would be worth the extra money given their qualities I've listed above. But considering that their prices are very competitive, it's truly a no-brainer.

I couldn't reach the company (not Young and Bowman) which had installed my sump pump and back up battery, and was having issues with the system. I was so desperate for help and called Young and Bowman. I spoke with Dave. the owner. Dave spent time on the phone, asking questions and trying to find out what the issue was before he sent someone over.
In the end, he sent a great serviceman, John LaRocca. He showed up so fast. I was relieved! John found that the system was running continuously, and was hot! He was very concerned, so he shut it down. Because they did not install the original product, he couldn't replace the back up battery. But, he shut it all down, preventing damage. And a potential fire!
He then told me to call back the company that had installed it and make them come out today. Because of John's knowledge I was able to relay solid info to the other company and they came right down, preventing more issues like flooding. And. John never charged me for a service call. Nothing. I tried to pay him, but he wouldn't accept it.

Cannot say enough about how awesome and professional these guys are! I got in touch with them on Sunday because my hot water heater was leaking. They got back to me immediately and we started the process of warranty information and hot water heater information. They arrived at my home by 8:30 am and all work was completed by 9:45am. I had a really good experience with Kevin of Y & B. He was on-time, polite, considerate of the house and carpet and masked up!. He fixed both issues quickly and corrected and we then review (at my request) our water softener and acid neutralizer. Found that our water was harder than expected and he gave me several repair/replacment alternatives. I'll address those issues later this year. I felt he was offering information and education - not selling. Charges were quite fair too. Thanks, Kevin.

Young and Bowman is definitely a 5 star company! On a personal level they have responded to every call with service that was professional and delivered in a timely manner. From needing a new water heater to a new faucet to a leaky toilet, to water pipe repair - every technician was at my home quickly, fixed the problem perfectly and the cost was reasonable.
When my faucet needed to be repaired I had to go buy a new one and the technician told me to call as soon as I had it and he would come back that day to install it. He kept that promise and by the afternoon I had a new faucet beautifully installed. As a Realtor, Young and Bowman has saved the day for my sellers on several occasions. Weather it was a water leak, or pipe replacement the professional assessment and repair provided by Young and Bowman was above and beyond! I would recommend Young and Bowman without hesitation. The main cold water supply pipe sprung a leak, and naturally it was behind the hot water heater in the laundry room. I tried calling another plumber in the area, and they couldn't come out for a week--and that was only for an estimate. I called Young & Bowman in the late afternoon, and their service technician was available the following day around lunch time.
I explained that since the hot water heater was already beyond its warranty of seven years, it might as well be replaced as well, rather than having it die over the winter. He was able to get a replacement hot-water heater from a second supplier (first supplier was out of stock), drain the old hot water heater, replace the leaky section of pipe, and install the new hot water heater--and bring the installation up to code, which it wasn't--all within three hours.
Our technician was cordial, efficient, and very able to handle the situation--in cramped quarters. The price was quite fair, considering all that had to be done. He explained that he was in our community at a house with the very same problem just three days before--and a couple of other repairs in our community in the last month or so. It certainly pays to have someone work in our house who is familiar with the "lay of the land" in our development. This is the advantage of having a local plumber who is just a few blocks away--rather than some chain service whose nearest location is 15 or 20 miles away.

Went downstairs to do laundry and noticed a wet mark on the ceiling. Recently having surgery and no use of my left arm i lifted a ceiling tile and the water started pouring down. I called around 11:00 and they said they would be out. Around noon I called because I could not keep up with the water. Dave came out and turned the water off. Then John came out found the leak and repaired the pipe all done by 4:00. What an amazing company to do business with. I highly recommend them. Courteous, polite, very professional and caring.

They've done pretty much all the work at my home, and are always reliable and provide quality work. They know all the nuances of my old home, and have been able to make great and honest recommendations for various projects. They most recently installed a garbage disposal in my kitchen as part of a renovation project to install a dishwasher, which the house did not previously have. Young & Bowman were quick, punctual, affordable, and made sure the job was done correctly.

Tried to come in and do business here and the woman at the front desk was miserable - completely turned me off from wanting to work with them. Additionally there's a dog situated at the front door - I'm not a dog person and having to navigate past a dog is not really what I want when I walk into a business. There's plenty of competition for these guys. I'd go to them.

Called to ask for information and help with a non-working furnace. The technician wanted to come right away and we scheduled a mutually agreeable time. The gentleman arrived promptly. was courteous and professional. He had my issue diagnosed in 10 minutes. fixed in another 15 and was on his way. (I considered fixing it myself but would have ordered an unnecessary part.) The service call charge was fair. not the least expensive but not the most. I've used Y&B in the past and they impress me as honest and reliable. Update: Asked Y&B to service a humidifier that was leaking. Tech assessed, traveled back to office for minor part and installed.
While installing minor part, he inadvertently broke a different part and left without explaining. The unit continued to leak. Charge: $180. I called to inquire about repairing the mistake and a different, more knowledgeable tech returned. This time, the unit was modified to stop leaking. Not an actual repair but I accepted it due to the unit's age. All good. or so I thought. Two weeks later. an invoice for $120 to repair the first tech's error. Really? I complained. it was dropped. Dropping my review by 2 stars.

I have been a long time customer of young and bowman. As a contractor, I have had them on countless jobs over the years both at my own home as well as introducing clients to their company who are still customers. I called and asked them to come and take a look at a problem I had with a thermostat. After asking me to wait a week for service one of the HVAC guys came by the house, informed me that they couldn't do anything and they didn't have time on that day to help because they had another call to attend to.
I asked the technician John if there was any charge for the day. He informed me that they wouldn't charge me because there was nothing they could help with. One week later I received a bill from the company for $115.00 for the service call, noting on the bill that had preformed no service. It is sad to me when companies put profits over their community.
As a contractor, I understand that they have a business to run and overhead to pay. I would be more understanding if they charged me $50.00 for the call even though they didn't do anything. Their techs were here for less than 10 minutes. Young and Bowman is fine at what they do, like the 50 other companies in their area. If you want a company to build a relationship with and work with over time, I would not recommend them.
After years of my loyalty to them, their only concern was profit. Too bad, in the future I will taking my business to and recommending McMackin Mechanical located in Doylestown Pa. as well. Brian is a fair and honest owner his guys are talented plumbers and HVAC specialists and he values the relationships he has with his clients.

The service techs are good but that's about it I needed an update to my zone valves paid for the work in advance took about 3 weeks for parts to get in. When they arrived they didn't have all the parts needed. Ended up doing half the job and came back not the next day but a week later. The pump they installed was faulty and made a squealing noise.
That took another 2 weeks to get replaced.then I get a bill for the extra time and interest charges When I call and stated I paid already they told me it was for the new parts. I asked to speak with Dave the owner.he still hasn't ever called back. No follow up and a terrible customer service. I'll you some one else for sure

My water softener resin tank recently needed to be rebedded. Dave Bowman, the owner of this company, came out and told me that the the manufacturer of my water softener was no longer in business. He provided a quote for $1750.00 to replace the water softener. I looked online and quickly found out that the water softener manufacturer was still in business right here in PA.
When I contacted Bowman about his outrageous quote, he started to hem and haw and stammer that he got the faulty information from a distributor. Right! I did not believe his excuse for a minute. I will be kind and say that if he is this misinformed, then I would not trust him to do ANY work for me. After speaking with the manufacturer I contacted another company in the area who repaired my water softener for LESS THAN A QUARTER of what Bowman wanted to charge. Bowman also wanted to charge me $600 to install a $1200.00 water heater. Caveat emptor!
Do your homework and at least get a second opinion before using Young and Bowman. I wish I could give them a zero star rating. I have told my neighbors about this situation and thought the general public in Doylestown should be warned too!

Young and Bowman have been great to me. I was new to the area 2 years ago and they ahve serviced my 120 year old house perfectly. The day before my wedding our well pump died and they came out talk to the neighbor to get water back up and running until they could provide a new well pump. Everyone has been great and timely. I would highly recommend.

Young & Bowman have been our family's plumber for years and years. They are trustworthy and know their stuff - and they come relatively quickly when its an emergency (and when ISN'T it an emergency when your toilet seriously malfunctions?) Nice folks. A bit pricey, but great customer service - and they come in the dead of winter to fix those leaky pipes.
