We recently had to replace a failed central AC system. We chose Cool-o-matic because of the effort they went thought to verify that the size of the previous system was calculated correctly. They did determine that the ducting work was not designed for optimal performance and was able to make improvements. Their in-house metal shop was able to fabricate the necessary ducting quickly and precisely.
The team that came to do the install was very personable and professional and I am completely satisfied with the work that was done and fully recommend this company to others

I used Cool O Matic this past weekend to replace my HVAC system and the whole experience was amazing. From Tom, their salesman who worked very diligently with us to get us everything we needed to Craig and his crew coming in on a Saturday to replace the system so my house could have heat again during the coldest days and a baby in the house. Fair pricing as they came in with the best price and they are even coming back to do more work in the house in the coming weeks!

As a recent update I needed more work done due to the recent storm. Cool o Matic once again came through with excellent service, competitive pricing and more. There team goes above and beyond and is so helpful! As well as genuine when it comes to having the work done well and efficiently. They are all amazing! I had a great experience with Cool O Matic. Their salesperson Tom is a true professional. Gave me a great price and provided not just what I asked for but what my house and system really needed. I replaced my air conditioning system and also needed a rework done on the existing return air duct. After a careful review of proposals received from several contractors, I selected Cool-O-Matic AC & Refrigeration. Tom R, Sales Engineer, reviewed the existing equipment and provided the best solution. Cool-O-Matic assigned an installation team of 3 mechanics right away.
The team led by Craig was very professional with great attention to detail in the installation. I had Cool-O-Matic install a new HVAC system in my condo. After reading reviews and getting several estimates, I chose them for several reasons. For one, Tom was very knowledgeable and pointed out some potential problems with previous work I had done. He included fixing those issues in my contract. He also was very clear on explaining various types of furnaces, measured everything to be sure I had the correct size, and gave me four options - all of which were less expensive than competitors.
He did not pressure me at all, unlike other companies. The installers were very nice, polite and respectful. They wore masks and were extremely careful disassembling the old system and installing the new one. They gave me advance notice when turning off gas and water, and kept my inconvenience to a minimum. We had a small glitch getting my gas fireplace working again after the gas had been off, but that has since been resolved.

Dan came to our house to do our Winter service and tune up -- he was very nice, knowledgable and did the work quickly and efficiently. We switched from another service company with whom we had an annual service plan with equipment tuneups twice per year and so far, Coolomatic has been more cost effective and seems to do a better job. They actually took care of a few service items when they took over our account that the previous company had "overlooked".

I'd give them a zero if I could. Bought an HVAC system from them around 3 years ago and it's broken down twice in the third year, both times in the middle of winter. This time the tech left after leaving the air on which has been blowing cold air into the house leaving it freezing. I called to see if there was anything they could do to help us out given this unit is only around 3 years old and that we've already sunk a good chunk of money into this before the additional $400 or $500 they were asking for ($300 for the single part alone, which when I looked on amazon is like $50 max).
Not only were they unhelpful, but rude as well. Specifically I want to mention Dana who was rude to both myself and my father and was unwilling to help us out in the slightest way. Cool-o-Matic states the following on their company bio, "As a seasoned HVAC service company based in Manville, NJ, Cool-O-Matic, Inc. knows how important it is to have a top-performing heater or AC during the extreme weather conditions." -They know how important it is to have a top-performing heater or ac during extreme weather, yet they provide shoddy products and services that break down in less than 4 years. WARNING. They'll intentionally install a faulty $8,000+ HVAC system or install it in such a way that it will begin giving you problems within the first couple of years (if not months) of having it. Ask them to have a look and they'll charge over $100 just for someone to take a look! We had an HVAC system installed by these low lives less than 4 years ago and it has been problematic ever since.
It broke down TWICE in one year in the MIDDLE of winter. Most recently, it broke down right after a snow storm. We called them, had a technician come over who not only charged $100+ just to check out the problem (keep in mind this system has had many problems in the past), but he concluded that the only way to fix the problem was by buying a piece of equipment which they would charge $300 separately from labor $100+.
Later we discovered this piece of equipment can be bought online for less than $50! The technician was a loud, arrogant and cocky SOB that I honestly wanted to smack across the face given the way he was speaking to my father and brother and suggested 'we take up any issues with the manufacturer'. Buddy, you not only installed the system, you 'fixed' it only for it to malfunction the SAME way again.
Not to mention the technician LEFT THE FAN ON all day and night in below freezing temperature, which we had no way of adjusting given the system is electronic and that part of the system was left inaccessible to us, by the technician. My father and brother called the next morning to see if they could at least give us some sort of a discount if they weren't going to fully cover the expenses of fixing this faulty installation once and for all only to be met by the owner Art Stainer's incredibly rude and unhelpful wife, Dana (Dina?) who wasn't helpful, empathetic or understanding in any way.
In fact, she went as far as to correct my brother over the phone when he mentioned this HVAC system broke down as recently as February of this year to tell him that it was 'actually January of this year' in a condescending tone. She also said, 'if you aren't happy with our customer service you can look elsewhere and I'll cancel your appointment for today' after going through the coldest night we've spent in this home in over TWENTY FOUR YEARS of being here (yes, including when our power went out during Sandy since we didn't have the FAN also on back then). Did I mention we have a sick/vulnerable individual in our home?
Because these folks couldn't care less. Do yourselves a favor and STAY AWAY FROM COOL-O-MATIC, these guys will rob you and treat you terribly. I'd give them ZERO stars if I could! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

Dan came in to check out my faulty furnace. He was very knowledgeable and professional and quickly troubleshooted my heating system. Found an issue with the condensate drainage and did a great job to correct the issue. Was very communicative during the whole process, keeping me informed and up to date. Dan came out To access the problem with our A/C which stopped working the day before temperatures hit 92. Initially it needed a freon charge but he noticed the condenser was not turning on. Found it to be caused by a partially burnt wire for the main power. He was able to re-splice it and all is good now. Thanks Dan.

We had an excellent experience with Cool-O-Matic at the end of May 2019. Their proposal for a replacement AC system was more competitively priced and included better equipment than 3 other bids. Tom R. was great to deal with on developing the project and the crew was professional, completed its work as scheduled in less than one day, and improved the layout of ductwork in my attic without being asked.
Permit approved, already have my rebate from the equipment supplier, and am waiting for the NJ rebate. New system is quiet and we love the wifi-controlled thermostat. I would recommend calling Cool-O-Matic about your project.

This place was a god send for me in a difficult time. When my dad passed away it was very important to me to get my moms air conditioner fixed so it wasn't something she needed to worry about during this horrible time. The woman Dana who helped me was an angel. She sent someone out to my parents house the same day I called. When the part that needed to fixed wasn't in stock she ordered the part to be delivered the next day.
Within 2 days we had 2 technicians at my parents house and the AC was fixed. Words cannot describe how much this meant to me and my family. This company treated me like family and I am forever grateful to Dana and the team for helping me during this hard time.

I hired Cool-O-Matic for AC, furnace and water heater replacement. I had a very pleasant experience with the company and specifically, their salesperson Tom who not only spent some time with me on the phone when i called and explained the difference between different units and efficiency (I honestly thought he was the owner) but also, spoke with the owner and gave me a good deal.
Unlike other companies, It only took them one day after we signed the contract to get a crane and do the job, so i did not have to wait for weeks in heat considering my AC was not working at all. They were on time, very professional and polite. I will definitely recommend Cool-O-Matic to my friends.

My neighbor Sean referred me this company since he had a great experience with them to replace hot water heater, AC, and hot air heater. I called the company and talked when their sales agent Tom who is an expert in the field and most importantly the installation aspect. We have a quick discussion on the price and rebates. During the installation dates, two technicians showed up.
Very efficiently, they took out the old ones and installed the new AC and heater units, both in the basement and outside unit. Their thermostat control connects to my wifi and display are easy to use. The temperature controls are super, quite and smooth, much better than my old obits. They are very professional

I've never used his services, but I am currently in a funeral procession for my brother, and he cut us off and flipped me the bird. Anyone who is that callous can't possibly be a decent person, and without basic courtesy for those grieving the sudden loss of a loved one, how could he possibly be a respectable business owner.

Do NOT use this company! Through my builder, as a sub-contractor, they installed a central air conditioning system in my home in 2007, which NEVER worked properly. I repeatedly had to call them to come to diagnose leaks in the system and other issues. This went on for THREE summers, and after that, the owner refused to come to service the system without my paying for his service fees.
This company is shady, and they do NOT back up their equipment or labor. The system also did not have enough returns which was part of the problem, in addition to multiple leaks and faulty evaporator coils which froze up after the system ran for a few weeks. STAY AWAY!

Look elsewhere. Very unprofessional staff. They make appointments which they fail to show up for. This happened to me with this company several years ago, and I thought it was a fluke, until it happened again today. Just talked to the dispatcher who informed me they cancelled the appointment they made with me a week ago because they were "backed up", but unfortunately they never called me to let me know. Also, she insisted that she doesn't know who the manager is, because she's new. Unless you have a week off from work to blow. Take your business elsewhere.

My ac was not performing well and called this company and they sent a rep with a side kick as well and within minutes told me that my refrigerant was low (that I had already researched and identified). Then before anything here comes the tank and they start filling it and not showing the amount filled and then hand me a bill for $428.
In amazon the same refrigerant 30lb is $400. I call the company the next day and here are the guys who according to their motto "serve the community" (bullshit). This guy john who says that if you want we will install a new ac for you and he has to pay health benefits and EPA certification which is the reason they charge 4 times the cost. If you still go to these jokers then you might as well throw $$ into a well!

I literally had the same experience with Cool O Matic in 2014 as the Steve F review. My A/C broke in JUN and the temp was hovering at high 80's. Called for an emergency appt. The driver arrived late, but that's fine on an emergency visit, i understand. He evaluated fast and quickly arrived at the conclusion that i needed a new capacitor.
Only he stated a price in advance of $280. In their defense, i said go ahead and do the work, so i technically agreed to the price. While he was replacing, i looked online and saw the range of capacitors from $40-$90. I asked again why it was so expensive, and he said it 'was the best one on the market'. I also got stuck for another $170 in labor for 20-30min work.

I absolutely agreed for the work to be done, i just didn't expect to get get gouged on an emergency appt. I actually found them on Angie's List, and they've since been taken off. I will not be using Cool-O-Matic in the future. After years of having an AC contract with them I finally had to take advantage of the service when my condenser fan stopped spinning. I feel that there is no benefit to the service contract. Cool-O-Matic's service department was not responsive, their repairman was late and there was no communication.
The cost of the repair was excessive. Friday night - Condenser fan stops spinning and our house is 82 degrees. Saturday morning - Internet research helps me diagnose that the issue is the capacitor that makes the fan start and run. You Tube is awesome. Further research and removing the side panel of the condenser let me know that I can buy the replacement capacitor online for less than $40.
I call Cool-O-Matic (they are closed) and leave a message explaining my problem and self-diagnosis. I ask them to call back and schedule service. I would have tried the repair on my own but I had to head to a conference first thing Monday morning, leaving my wife and 3-year-old home on high 80 degree days without air conditioning. To be clear I did not specify that it was an emergency in the message I left. Monday morning 10:00 am - I call Cool-O-Matic back because I had not heard from them.
After explaining my issue to the person that answers, they say "Oh, you left a message" and I reply that I thought they would call me back. They inform me that they are booked for the day and the earliest they could do is between 2 pm and 6pm on Tuesday. I make the appointment. Tuesday - I asked my retired father if he could come to our house and wait for the repairman since I was away and my wife could not take off for the day.
He comes over before 2 and waits. 6 pm comes and goes. My wife comes home and my father leaves. 6:20 the repairman arrives and 20 minutes later he is done. The issue was the capacitor. Here is the break down of the repair listed on the bill. Diagnostic $125 Turbo 200 Capacitor $254 Subtotal $379 15% discount (for having an AC contract) $56.85 Total $322.15 Tax $22.56 Total $344.71 They used a universal capacitor that is available from Amazon for $60.25, my guess is that they pay less.
When I called them question the bill I was told the $125 charge was for coming to our house and that the $254 was a flat rate for the part with a markup and the repair. I will be searching for a new company to handle my AC repairs in the future.

They inform me that they are booked for the day and the earliest they could do is between 2 pm and 6pm on Tuesday. I make the appointment. Tuesday - I asked my retired father if he could come to our house and wait for the repairman since I was away and my wife could not take off for the day.
He comes over before 2 and waits. 6 pm comes and goes. My wife comes home and my father leaves. 6:20 the repairman arrives and 20 minutes later he is done. The issue was the capacitor. Diagnostic $125 Turbo 200 Capacitor $254 Subtotal $379 15% discount (for having an AC contract) $56.85 Total $322.15 Tax $22.56 Total $344.71 They used a universal capacitor that is available from Amazon for $60.25, my guess is that they pay less.
When I called them question the bill I was told the $125 charge was for coming to our house and that the $254 was a flat rate for the part with a markup and the repair. I will be searching for a new company to handle my AC repairs in the future.
