My name is Mike Bakker and I have been working in the heating and air conditioning field since I was 16. My dad owned a heating and air conditioning business on the south side for which I worked for several years before moving to DuPage County. I worked for a few larger companies in the area, both as a Service Technician and as a Service Manager, doing residential and commercial work. I then decided it was time to branch out on my own as the business practices did not always coincide with my values.

Had a simple AC clean and check. The tech was very nice and professional. He did suggest i get a new AC but mine is only 3 yrs old. I called the office later about this. I spoke to a person named Dawn she said she was the owner. I asked about why the tech would suggest the new AC but did say what was really wrong. He response was "We are professionals in this business so I am sure we know more about these systems then you.
If the tech said it needs replace then it probably does " I said I'd like t a second opinion. again with a rude town she said good luck with that and hung up. I don't know how they get or keep new customers if that is how the owner acts.

The technicians made 2 trips to my house within a week. I paided $600 approx and my furnace is still not working. After paying all that money then they tell me that I need to replace my furnace. I brought these concerns to the management they told me that is the price of doing business now adays. And if you don't like it you can take your business elsewhere. So I did. Now I'm very happy with my new HVAC person. I wish I could give Dutchman 0 stars but I have to give them 1 star.

My 21yo furnace died just before a subzero cold snap. We ordered a new one and Todd & Nate did a nice install but unfortunately there was an intermittent heating issue with the new unit shortly after they left. Nate was headed home but came back to troubleshoot. He called in additional support, Clint, who stayed until he identified an extremely rare mfg issue (lucky me), no fault of installation.
I'll spare the details. He managed to get the furnace running to prevent a -9F night without heat. Julie drove from the office after hours with several space heaters, just in case, but the furnace ran all night and we didn't need them. Next morning I recieved a call from Mike (owner) saying he has a replacement furnace ready to go. He personally came out for the install and they swapped it out in less than 2hrs.
There were no debates, finger pointing, etc, and I get the strong impression that their entire staff sincerely cares about their customers. Thanks guys for handling the situation so well.

Our furnace stopped heating late one recent Saturday night. Called Dutchman and they scheduled a service appointment for the next morning. Technician Clint called 15 min before the scheduled time to let us know he was on the way. He quickly identified the issue as a malfunctioning thermostat, replaced it with a new Aprilaire thermostat, and checked the furnace for any other issues. Very efficient and professional. The defective thermostat was a 25-yr old Honeywell programmable unit. Might be good idea to have a spare mechanical one handy just in case.

I like the way Dutchman handles appointments. They give you a 2 hour window. You get a confirmation call the day before the service and then a call from tech advising his arrival time. I called because our furnace would not stay on. They gave me a time in the afternoon (4:00 or 4:30) and told me that it would be $135 per hour because of overtime. Seriously? 4:30 in the afternoon is overtime. I told them it wasn't an emergency so they scheduled me for the following day at noon for $95 an hour. Okay--that's fair. Then they asked me if I owned or rented the house.
I just moved here and am renting for the first year. They then informed me that they needed the landlord's permission for them to enter the house. {{{sigh}}} give me a break. But okay, I jumped through that hoop and had the owner call them and approve. Next they, informed me that it would be $140 an hour. Why? Because they consider it a commercial property.
I canceled. If this is their practice before they even come out, I can only imagine what they do once they have you captive and you're committed to them. I refuse to pay $45 an hour more just because I'm renting the house. This is unfair and it's an unfair business practice. There are too many heating and cooling companies to choose from that you don't have to jump through hoops and pay through the nose for these folks to provide you service.
I do not recommend doing business with Dutchman Heating and Cooling. Yes, they have good reviews, but let's be honest, anyone with heating and cooling experience can do the work you need done and many are doing it for far less than these crooks.

We had a contract for the AC and Heat cleaning/check ups. Came out, said we needed to spend 2,000.00 in maintenance on furnace or just spend 5,500.00 for a new furnace, as ours was 15 years old. (But it was working just fine for 2 weeks) Tech asked if we just want it off since we had the doors open, we left it off. Next day it would only run for 1/2 hour, then trip a limit switch. Called them back on a Friday, problem continued. Said Saturday was overtime so I agreed to have them back on Monday. Had another local independent HVAC company come out. (Because it was too coincidental) and he couldn't find anything wrong, so he left.
Problem continued, so he came back and upon further inspection, the capacitor for the blower was wired with 2 wires on one post. Which I am sure was no accident. he switched the wires back and has been working fine for 2 weeks. Also, one of the parts the tech said needed replacing had a 20 year warranty, said nothing about that.(other company found nothing wrong with the heat exchanger they said was cracked).
Also just badmouthed the Nest Thermostat I installed my self for $250.00. They replaced our AC last summer, wanted to sell us an April Aire thermostat for 700.00 that I found online for 350.00. Consumer reports rated the nest the highest and theirs was towards the bottom. They told me more than once to "absolutely don't get a nest". I could go on and on.
I guarantee if I had agreed to purchase the furnace when they came the 1st time, they wouldn't have rigged up my furnace to shut off. Also the tech is not reporting what actually goes on. Owner replied and says that the tech didn't say anything about 2,000.00, I know what was said, and how this all went down.

They rigged my furnace to shut off, when I didn't immediately agree to purchase a new one or spend 2,000.00 on repairs. Owner has alibi to everything. I've been in the business world for almost 40 years. Have never felt such a fraudulent pursuit of a transaction. The tech, Clint is a fraud. I wonder what his commission is. Been working fine for a month since we had someone else switch the wires on the blower capacitor back to the way they were before he put them both on one post. Absolute scam pretending to be upstanding "Christian" company. Please reply if you want even more specifics. SCAM, especially "Clint" the senior technician, AKA "con artist"

Our HVAC went out Sunday afternoon. We contacted Dutchman and they were able to get someone out to us Monday morning. Jose was great - arrived early, friendly, professional, efficient, and extremely knowledgeable. Just from my terrible explanation of the issue, he was able to pinpoint the problem. He also took the time to explain to us some of what we needed to know in order to make an informed decision as to what services we wanted. We called Dutchman to address water from our AC that was pooling on top of our furnace. Jose was very courteous, professional and pleasant. He gave us a thorough explanation of what he believed was the cause and performed the necessary work quickly. When the problem recurred later that evening, I called Dutchman and left a message explaining the issue.
I received a call from Dawn promptly the next morning, and she arranged to have Jose return to take another look and perform some additional work we had already scheduled. He was able to track down the cause and did an excellent job of explaining what was happening and why - complete with visual aids! We felt totally comfortable and had complete confidence in his expertise, and in the company's dedication to customer care.
While not inexpensive (reliable HVAC work is never cheap), the costs seem reasonable and in line with other HVAC companies we've used in the past. If Jose is typical of their technicians, they are the gold standard: knowledgeable, professional and really nice people. We will definitely use Dutchman again.

My neighbor was going thru a difficult time in below zero weather with his furnace not heating, so I recommended Dutchman Heating based on my great experiences. We had our furnace quit working the morning of Christmas Eve. After having another company come out who didn't have the parts to fix it a friend suggested we call Dutchmans service. What a relief! They came out AND had the parts to fix it right away. Thank you to MJ Murphy for telling us about this company. We will call them first the next time we need furnace repair. I recently had a commercial heating and A/C system replaced in my building there was a issue from com Ed. That was out of Mike@ Dutchman 's control they helped me with the tremendous amount of red tape getting com Ed to address the issue this caused damage to the new unit. With Mike's help we were able to get the electrical issue resolved after that Mike replaced what damages were caused by the voltage issue I can't say enough about their commitment to customer service I have used them also on the residential side also, and that service has always been excellent too. this is a quality local business who cares about the customers

We already are regular customers for spring/fall system checkups. The office called to setup our usual service. Because of that call we checked our AC and found that our compressor was not cycling on. I was anxious about having a repair technician come to our home during the shutdown. But we were so pleased with the care and professionalism of our tech.
Mask + shoe covers in our house. He stayed inside to do some diagnostics then spent most of the call outside doing our repair. Everything fixed. AC running perfectly in time for the hot weather this weekend. Reasonable pricing. And they come within the service window time that they schedule. So pleased and thankful for the Dutchman team.

So glad that we went with this company when we replaced our furnace AND air conditioner. That was a huge expense that we did not take lightly. When you make such a big purchase, you obviously want to make sure you understand your choices, find the most honest and reliable vendor, and feel confident in the company long-term. We have had several cleaning service calls since the initial purchase and have been impressed! Mat has been our tech several times and it has always been a pleasure to engage with him. He TIGHTENED my bathroom faucet. Yep. You read that correctly. He took the 1 minute extra to notice it was loose and to take the time to make it better. Just because he could. Now THAT is a good employee. I love that this company supports their employees to approach their job everyday in a way that leaves such a great impression. And thanks to Jamie who was patient in tracking me down to make sure I got my yearly maintenance cleaning in before the end of the season.

Initially, we contacted Dutchman to deal with a service issue with our furnace, and we were so happy with them that we decided we would use them for our future HVAC service. Matt is really kind and thorough and super patient! He always lets me follow him around to learn about what he's doing and how I can take care of the units. I lucked out and someone was available same day! Clint came and did the service. He explained everything he was doing and why. Very friendly and professional.

Extremely impressed. Extremely professional and polite, from Dawn who initially took my phone call to Mark the salesman and then the guys who did the install of the new A/C unit. My A/C unit went out and of course it happened to be the hottest week of the year so far. I called around to a few places and Dutchman was the best. Mark came and gave me a very detailed estimate and answered all of my questions.
After I accepted the proposal Dawn and I worked togather to find a good time for the installation. She was extremely accommodating and polite. Right on time as promised the guys showed up to perform the installation. They could not have been more professional and nice. They got the job done in a timely manner and I could not be more impressed. I would enthusiastically recommend them to anyone who is in need of HVAC repair.

Dutchman did a great job. They were on time, provided a detailed quote with multiple option, explained them all very well. They beat the two other competitors especially when considering the name brand high quality products they install. Their installers were here, quiet as could be expected, extremely clean, were done on time, answered all of our questions. They were great, I can't recommend them enough.

I called today and said i had a couple items to have quoted at my house.the kind of rude receptionist answered "such as?".bad start.she then went on to tell me that they charge $800 for a standard Aprilaire humidifier and install. that is insane, they cost 150 bucks at menards. i got it done last year in another house for $425. need to go find the name of that company. good luck Dutchman.you better keep preying on people that have no clue about home repairs.

Mike and his staff are knowledgeable, courteous, and professional! I have used them on numerous occasions for routine maintenance on my home system. As a remodeling contractor myself, I also refer my clients to Dutchman for service or new installation work. Due to the fact that a referral from me reflects directly on me and my company, I can assure you that I do not offer referrals lightly. Dutchman's continuing education of their technicians and current knowledge of operating systems is at the top of the industry.
It is always a great idea to do your due diligence when selecting a contractor and Mike and his staff take the time to explain all aspects of the system in question and the corrective steps necessary to get your system in tip top shape.
