Do not use this company. They have Techs on staff that do not know what they are doing. They had wired my heat pump incorrectly when first installed. The Tech that had to come out and try to trouble-shoot the fix took 1.5 days. They then invoiced me over $1,000 (which I paid) but said that they didn't have a record of that invoice and just an invoice for $180.
They then refused to credit me the $1000 and I had to file a complaint with the BBB. They also refused to return calls and sent nasty and unprofessional emails. There are plenty of HVAC companies in Southern Maine, do not use this company.

Critical: Professionalism, Value This company is a scam. Unknowledgeable Techs that take 1.5 days and a $1,000 to do a 30 minute job. DO NOT USE THEM. I had to file a BBB complaint and several others had similar issues based on Yelp Reviews. Take your business elsewhere. Service: Heating system repair

My boiler broke right in time for winter. Just about everywhere I called turned me away due to overwhelming demand and staff shortages. I got in contact with Jim and he was extremely responsive and faced with the same high demand as other companies, fit me in the next day. Ed showed up and was very professional, even educating me to fill in my knowledge gaps.
He was able to quickly diagnose the issue and luckily had the parts to repair my obsolete boiler as a hold over. I highly recommend Mainely P&H and will certainly be using them going forward.

The guys who work for the owners are great. They stand by their work, and helped me completely gut and replace the old plumbing in my house. Working with the owner himself was less than professional. He repeatedly tried to charge me more than the initial quote, did not give me a quote for a major part of the project, and the bill came in over $5,000!
I paid about $4,000, and was still working on paying the rest when he sent my bill to collections without notice! I'll give the employees 5 stars and the owner 2 stars. Get an estimate and watch how much he charges you. Be prepared to pay the bill in full or face collections.

My husband called and made an appointment to have mainly plumbing come and install a new toilet. We were told we would get a call back that afternoon with a quote. Two weeks later we were still waiting on a quote. Messages were left Thursday and Friday and we're not returned. Monday morning they showed up for the appointment with a toilet that they had chosen.
I didn't realize that the tank and toilet seat were additional charges. Nor were we told that we would be paying for travel time to appointment. Not a problem their office is 5 miles from my house. What I didn't know is I would be paying travel time from South Portland. You see that's where their last appointment was. They ended up charging me 45 minutes of travel time to get to my house.
When I called I was told I would be issued a refund which I was. I just don't understand having to call about this. The plumber told me he doesn't like that practice but he gave me a brake on the travel cost of $135.00. Do you not trust them. The toilet seat they sent, was $94. You can buy the same one at Home Depot for $21. At least my almost 900.00 toilet works.

UPDATE Within a couple of days of posting this review, Mainely Plumbing scheduled a time to come to our house and fix the situation. They arrived as promised. According to the plumber who came, the leak was not due to their previous work, but was due to the grouting. He repaired the grouting although, according to him, this is not something they usually handle.
We are not being charged for this service. We greatly appreciate Mainely Plumbing's responsiveness to the situation and their willingness to go above and beyond. We are comfortable changing the original rating and recommending them in the future.

Jim and his crew worked with us to install a mini split A/C heat pump in our home. They were able to customize it to fit our particular location, and were careful to explain what they were doing while they were on site. They were less expensive than the other bids we got for the system, installed it sooner than the other contractors would have been able to, and cleaned up well after themselves.

Do not hire this company! Workmanship was shoddy and in violation of code. Ten days after completion of the job, a major leak resulted from their incompetent installation of an outdoor water spigot. Then they charged us substantial fees for repairs! Throughout, although they admitted the spigot should never have been installed by their plumber in the first place, their attitude was belligerent and accusatory. In more than 40 years of home ownership, we have never dealt with such unprofessional, unpleasant contractors/workmen.

I hired Mainely P&H to install a mini split heat pump system (ducted and wall unit) as well as a gas Rinnai heater in my basement. On both jobs, they were thorough, professional, communicative and left my house nice and tidy. This was quite a feat because the install included dismantling and removing my very old square oil tank - quite a mess. I interviewed three vendors for the job, and Jim stood out for his knowledge, patience with all my questions and follow through.
He's been responsive to the questions I've had after the jobs were done. With Jim and Mainely, I feel like I have a reliable and knowledgeable resource going forward, and that gives me a lot of peace of mind. I recommend them highly.

Love working with Mainely Plumbing! We renovated the kitchen and all 3 bathrooms in our Scarborough house. Jim and his team did an excellent job, and we are very pleased with their service. Extremely knowledgeable, experienced, professional, and always courteous. They are a dedicated team you know you can rely on to be there for you when you need them! 5/5 stars from start to finish! Recommend them highly and will definitely call them again in the future if the need arises.

We have been customers for years. Recently, we had a critical job needing to be done in a hurry. The response and competence with which it was handled was beyond what you would expect for the situation we are all in today. Tyler handled the situation professionally and efficiently. We would highly recommend Mainely Plumbing & Heating

Mainly Plumbing and Heating connected my townhouse to the local natural gas line in '12 and I have continued to use them ever since. They are terrific! Not only are they very responsive, their technicians are really good and thorough. For heating and A/C maintenance or repair (both my boiler and whole house A/C unit are 12 years old) I know I can rely on them for excellent service when I need it.

Never use these d@$%& bags! I had a leak in my water heater. They called and advised they were on their way to another job and would stop and take a peek. I already disassembled the front panel, so they did not have to do anything. The "technician" took one look and immediately recommended a replacement unit, and blamed the issue on my "bad" well water. BTW, my well water is tested fine and I've never had a problem with it corroding pipes in 20 years. the "tech" called the 'boss' and advised he would get back to me with a bid ASAP.
I waited all weekend and received no call; meanwhile I had no hot water. They charged me $89 for 10 min of doing nothing. A couple weeks later I demanded my $89 back & they argued that it was the minimum fee & had to keep the trucks on the road. To their credit, the receptionist was very courteous and did eventually refund me, but I had to be a real @#$%! and force the issue.

I strongly recommend looking for an alternative plumber. My experience with this company was frustrating and unprofessional from beginning to end. First, they rescheduled our appointment on three separate occasions because their plumbers were stuck at other jobs that were "more important", we were eventually seen two+ weeks after our originally scheduled appointment. Second, they sent a very young man who informed me that "he usually does not do plumbing" but because they were so busy it was our lucky day; they sent a heating guy to do our plumbing. Third, after a long discussion about the best solution to our problem, where I relied on his "expertise" to guide my decision, we agreed to keep the garbage disposal and reconfigure the pipes.
During the repair process he broke our dishwasher and attempted to blame it on the manufacturer. He then insisted I should call Home Depot to fix the problem l, and pay for it myself, instead of holding himself accountable for his own carelessness. After a thirty-minute debate he finally agreed to "ask his boss" what to do. After asserting my opinions for another 20 minutes they finally agreed to fix it free of charge.
It was another week before they came to fix the dishwasher and brought the incorrect part. It was another week+ before they returned to fix the problem a second time. Lastly, the dishwasher is still broken and our sink is not fixed. The "expert" opinion I was given by the 20 something year old plumber was indeed not the right choice for our plumbing set-up.
The problem we originally called about is not fixed and they refuse to stand behind their work. They do not guarantee their work and have refused to come out and fix what they failed to in the first place. This is after charging us $100 over the original estimate. This place is a shameful representation of a Maine business. Price gauging jerks who have too much business to produce quality work. Way to stand behind your product Mainely Plumbing and Heating! You should truly be ashamed of your business practices, from what I read this is a common occurrence.

Yeah, i don't think so. called them about installing an hvac unit. they came out no problem and said they would get back with an estimate. that was a month an a half ago. i understand they need to hook up to our existing heating unit but with all the technology tools out there today, how long could it possibly take to do some research and find a manufacturer that may have the parts that you may need? i guess they have an abundance of business that they don't need mine

Mainely P&H sent inexperienced and untrained (in my opinion) technician and charges full rates or $95 per hour for their work. They are unprofessional and demand payment before they leave the property. When I asked for an itemized and corrected bill, the cost went up. over four hours to install a standard faucet. The technician had to make multiple calls to for advice, spend lengthy periods out in his truck, complained that the standard instructions were very complicated and confusing and in the end the owner had to come by to assure us that they did a great job. Finally, we had to clean the entire bathroom after they left. will not use them ever again, nor could i recommend them to my enemy.

Here is my experience with these idiots: - my contractor hired them to do the plumbing for the complete renovation of my Victorian building. I was working primarily with the owners of this company, who in hindsight were dishonest and not very nice - it was a significant effort to actually get them on site to do the work. not only that, but the guys were CLEARLY on serious DRUGS (my guess is meth), nevertheless I dealt with it. - When they removed a toilet that was being replaced, refuse was left all over the basement walls and they did nothing to keep the job "clean" and did not even clean it up.
When installing my kitchen they constantly complained that this was a "hard job" and often requested I put my personal preferences for how the kitchen was setup aside so that they could take the easy way out. I can go on, but you get the point - after about a year after the completion of the job I get a call from their lawyer explaining there is an outstanding balance.
I explained this is not my problem as ALL the billing was done through my contractor and they should talk the him - yesterday the sprinkler system they installed in my building start to dump water from the ceiling. I was told they would only come fix it if I paid the outstanding balance, which I did because they were the only certified repair folks in the area and no one else was legally allowed to touch the sprinkler system - well, after waiting and waiting, they called me back explaining they will NOT come to fix the leak. which was a real problem for obvious reasons, but namely because it was close to 5pm and next to impossible to find another plumber - after many calls with the sprinkler system manufacturer, I FINALLY found someone else who would do the work.
I was very lucky. Otherwise, I would have had to shut down the water to my whole house, with record breaking low temperatures, which would have been a complete disaster - the new plumber walked me through all the deficiencies in ALL of the plumbing these guys did on my building. not only did they fail to install the sprinkler heads correctly, but they took numerous liberties in doing EXTRA work that I did not need (such as installing a huge water tank in the basement for the sprinkler, when they could have just installed a pump to increase the water presser. IN SHORT, THE PLUMBERS WHERE HIGH ON METH, OVERCHARGED, DID MORE WORK THAN WAS NEEDED, AND COMPLETELY LEFT ME HANGING WITH A SERIOUS WATER LEAK WHEN IT WAS CLOSE TO -10 DEGREES OUTSIDE.
I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU FIND A DIFFERENT PLUMBER. THESE GUYS SHOULD BE LOCKED UP, NOT JUST FOR THE DEFICIENCIES IN THEIR WORK BUT FOR BEING COMPLETE JERKS. I AM JUST THANKFUL THAT I HAVE THE ABILITY TO GET MY LAWYERS ALL OVER THEM IF ANYTHING FAILS IN THE FUTURE. (Let me add, that the woman who answers the phone is incredibly kind and top-notch. I just hope they treat her better than their customers. If you are looking for a receptionist / dispatcher, you should hire her. her name is Robin)
