We bought our house in October 2019 with a "new" gas furnace. We've had nothing but problems over the past 2 winters with it going out during the coldest days. We've had several companies try to fix it. They could always fix it short term. Finally we got to a point we felt we just need to replace and had 5-6 companies provide estimates. When this company came to quote a new system he asked if he could have one of his techs take a look first because he didn't feel right quoting a new system when ours was just 2 years old.
The tech came the next day and was able to recreate the issue and better yet, he fixed it. Hopefully for good now. They guarantee their work for 2 years so needless to say we've found ourselves a new HVAC company that we trust and will rely on. No This company saved us $6-$7k.

Updated review (29/05/2020): After posting the original review (see below), James (Lutes operational manager) contacted me and I offered him an opportunity to fix the situation by stopping by and providing a real evaluation. He accepted and promptly stopped by to take a look at the AC system. With me standing by, James explained step by step how he was approaching the diagnosis.
He easily connected the pressure gauge to measure the refrigerant pressure. Then he checked the compressor. It took him just a few minutes to find a damaged cable powering the compressor and repair it. The AC system that had been declared dead by the first technician is now working like a charm. The compressor was clearly not seized and no need of refrigerant as initially diagnosed.
He admitted that the repair was a super easy one to identify and zero cost to fix it as there was nothing to replace. He could not explain how the first technician missed the damaged cable. While James eventually did fix the system and demonstrated his skills, he has not provided a compelling explanation on the conduct of the other employee, nor Lutes has offered any form of compensation for the inconvenience they produced to my family. Had I not insisted on a thorough evaluation, I would have not received one despite being charged for that.
I still do believe that they have no interest in repairing systems as selling a new one is way more profitable, as James admitted. As such, my opinion of Lutes has not fundamentally changed. I encourage other customers to report similar experiences as this is the only way to unveil unethical practices by companies like this. Original review (27/05/2020): Unprofessional, incompetent and super overpriced.
If your system is not under warranty they will try to inflate repair costs to sell you overpriced systems. I called Lutes to repair my old A/C. They charge a $99 service call fee. They did not show up the first day nor they called to inform me about the cancellation until 10 pm. The technician eventually showed up the next day. Without even touching the system he said I had a refrigerant leak but was not able to verify the line pressure as he doesn't carry the appropriate coupling.
He kept saying that my system was very old and was time to replace it. I insisted for a diagnosis and for a repair quote which he never produced. He said that "the service fee does not include diagnosis, it's only for the trip". He said it would be too hard to find the leak, the old R22 is very expensive, he would have to charge me $144 per pounds plus installation and my system requires 7 pounds. Plus, he said the access to the line to test the pressure was located in an "inconvenient" place and it would be dangerous for him to recharge the system.
He then said the compressor was seized and replacing it would cost almost as much whole new system. He called his boss and the boss confirmed his untested hypothesis and pledged to stop by to double check but never did. It quickly became apparent that the company policy is to cash the $99 and leave the customer with no proven diagnosis nor repair option and the sense that the system must be replaced and not fixed. Essentially, they are only interested in pushing the customer to purchase a whole new system.
The salesman, Brian, showed up right after the technician left and quoted me the cheapest 2 Tons single stage option they carry at $10,000. He said that replacing the two AC systems in my house, which he highly recommended as the other system is even older, would cost 20K. I told him that, based on my research, that was 2 to 3 times higher than average cost for the low efficiency 13 SEER system that he quoted.
The salesman then showed me a quote from a competitor (Great Lakes) for a similar system at 12k to convince me, which I though was very unprofessional (plus that did not surprise me about Great Lakes). Despite the lack of professionally and competency, I am not upset with the technician, nor the salesman. They clearly do what they are asked to do. I do question Lutes integrity as a company.

I will not use them ever again. Charged me $99 for trip charge and the problem was for a water heather they installed in November 2018. They told me the part was covered under warranty, but the labor would be $80. I was not ok with this! When i called and spoke with the customer service manager she said the plumbing company(home comfort experts) would give me $25 off.
When they came to fix my problem the gentleman from HCE said are you aware of our $25 off labor special lol. So Lute's did nothing extra it was HCE that had the special. Stay away from them. They are only concerned about money and not customer service!

We had a stellar experience with Lutes Heating and Air Conditioning! This company was gracious and appreciative for our business. They swiftly scheduled our quote and repair. The technician was knowledgeable and ensured we remained comfortably cool until repair was scheduled. They have competitive pricing and immaculate installation. Walked away feeling valued rather than ripped off. Good to know integrity still exists. Thanks Lutes!

I highly recommend Lutes Heating and Cooling to anyone in need of repair or installation of Furnace/AC! The gang at Lutes are amazing with customer service and satisfaction! They have gone above and beyond to help me to be able to replace my furnace/AC and have been prompt, courteous and reliable. Thanks to Paul and especially Tony for all that you have done for me. My parents used Lutes to install central air in their home and now I will only give my business to this awesome company!

We called on Sunday morning because our air conditioning went out and Lutes had a service tech out and it fixed by 1:00pm! We signed up for their maintenance agreement today, too so we can hopefully prevent these last minute service calls. Our tech was great and explained what happened and what needed to be fixed. He also checked the outside parts to make sure they were all in good shape. Great company!

Turned on the air. It was a hot 80+ and humid day. (My Dad just came home after a week in hospital.) Nothing! Went to turn the water on. Nothing! Bad day doesn't begin to describe it. Called Lutes immediately. They were out on the same day. They temporarily had the air on. I was added to their installing schedule. They put in a new furnace and new air conditioning unit in one day. Made it easier to get through the next few days knowing one thing was going to go correctly.

They came out the same day that I called. The guys were friendly and professional. They gave me a quote and let me know when they ran into anything that would change the price. The price was very reasonable. I was given options on how to proceed with the repairs. They cleaned up everything before they left. I highly recommend using Lutes.

I called Lutes on a Wednesday during June 2017 during the first hot week of the season. My 16 year old AC system had a severe Freon leak so I knew it was time to get a new one. The owner, I believe his name was Paul, along with his father, Mick, came out and provided an very honest and straightforward estimate, along with options. Their estimate for a new system was way under what several businesses in the area previously gave me. Paul and Mick were very professional, kind, and knowledgeable.
They were able to articulate and explain what system I needed and why. After much discussion and research I decided to go with Lutes. They were able to install my brand new AC system THAT SATURDAY. No extra charge. The workers were very polite and professional. Mick even came back to check on their work and see how things were going. Overall, I would recommend Lutes to anyone looking for a local, honest company.

We went without heat 4 days over a December weekend during very cold weather. Tony, service technician, came out same day we called Lutes and replaced igniter. He spent time checking a few things during his visit to confirm furnace would operate with proper air flow while he worked. Answered my questions professionally and asked me a couple times if I had any further questions. Cleaned up debris and dirty paper towels and took trash with him. A $75 trip charge is competitive. One large-outfit company I called charges more and that other company would not give me a commitment for same day service.

Negative impression. I called Lutes to fix my A/C. They charge a mandatory $75 service call fee. The technician came out and said I had a freon leak, and essentially said it would be too hard to find the leak, the old Refrigerant is very expensive, and basically was only interested in pushing me to buy a whole new system for $5000. I made it clear that was not in my budget and what options did I have to get me through this summer.
He said there were really no good options, and had a damn smirk on his face the whole time. They cashed the $75 and gave me no advice or result. A week later I called a small family owned HVAC business (Schulz) and they fixed my AC for $376. By the way, Schulz found the leak right away.it was right at the service valve at the base of the AC unit. I question the Lutes technician's integrity.
It was clear he just didn't want to do his job. I would NOT recommend Lutes. By the way, there was no follow-up from them to see if we needed any service or what we had ultimately decided.
