We would like to thank those who take the time to send notes and letters. We ask that all our customers fill out our satisfaction cards; we do read and respond to these. This job was great from start to finish, the estimator made some helpful suggestions and told me we could have the layout the way we wanted, while other contractors had told us we wouldn't be able to.
Fill it out and mail or fax it to us. It is also preferred that you include your resume along with the application via mail or fax. If you would like to email your resume send it directly to Mike Hartman. If you have not heard from us within 7-10 days, feel free to give us a call to follow up on your application.
Backflow Preventor: These are safety devices that protect our water supply to our house and the buildings that we work in. It keeps contaminated water from flowing into our "good" water. All major cities through out the US keep records of all that are installed and require Homeowners/ Businesses to have them tested yearly for proper function.
Carbon Monoxide is an odorless, tasteless, invisible, yet potentially deadly gas that's produced wherever there's incomplete combustion. Symptoms are often mistaken for cold or flu. We can test your home for Carbon Monoxide. Ask about our Low-level Carbon monoxide detectors. Design and install a new system, adapt your system for a remodel or simply replace your existing system.

Just wanted to thank Matt from Thomas E Clark who was just so professional and helpful in examining my HVAC system and then making the repairs that were necessary as part of my annual contract. He was so patient, and so thorough, and the pricing was very fair. I really appreciated his work, and also Thomas E Clark for being such a great business.

Honestly, from prompt response to courteous and knowledgeable technicians plus quality work how can you go wrong. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. Service: Plumbing pipe repair

Great company to work with. They are professional and my technician(Efren) explained everything he did and showed my why the valves had failed under the kitchen sink. He pointed out other areas of concern to be handled when he returns. I will not use anyone else for plumbing and HVAC needs. Services: Faucet repair, Plumbing leak detection

Our boiler was starting to act up so we decided to seek competitive proposals to replace the unit. Clark was one of several that came to provide an estimate. The estimator, Carlos, was very thorough, knowledgeable, and helpful in my understanding what he proposed to do. After evaluating the proposals from competitors, we selected Thomas Clark to do the work. Carlos and his team arrived at the time promised and did an excellent job removing the old unit and installing a new one made by NTI. It is a pleasure to work with a true professional who was very careful throughout the process to ensure its successful completion.

The plumber who fixed two of our toilets was not only competent and efficient, but he explained what he was doing in clear terms. He was also pleasant on a personal level. In addition, it was easy to make an early appointment for the work. We have used Thomas E. Clark for years -- new furnace last year, for example -- and have found them capable and consistent. Their prices are not out of line with others in the business, which is not to say cheap. We have no complaints.

Cannot say enough about their hard work, dedication and smarts. I recently used them to help locate a ring that had fallen in the toilet and was automatically flushed into the pipes. Their response time was immediate, they devised a tool to catch the ring should it have flown into the street sewer and were incredibly persistent. I will use them again for my home plumbing.

We switched to Thomas E Clark a year ago for heating/HVAC service and other work. Most recently they did the bi-annual service and replaced an old pressure valve. We have been consistently impressed with the quality of work, professionalism of staff, and excellent customer service. Service: HVAC maintenance

I requested a quote to replace both my AC unit and my water heater from this company. During my conversation with the technician, he rudely called me out for interrupting him while correcting him about the status of our chimney liner and the manufacturer warranty of a particular AC unit model. At the end of our argument, he refused to give a quote and he told me that his company is nor for me.
Good to know that they are not looking to earn new customers. I will never use this company and I do not recommend them to anyone. I got the jobs done with inspections passed by other company.

Our water heater broke on a Saturday and at the suggestion of a neighbor, we called Thomas E Clark Plumbing. From beginning to end, the replacement of the water heater was seamless. The plumber, Raphael, and his helper showed up on time and immediately explained the process to us. They were knowledgeable, professional, careful and very neat in replacing the water heater.
And given that it was a Saturday and COVID, we were delighted that they had the water heater in stock! We could not have been more pleased with the process, from beginning to end!

Wonderful experience both times with Chris and his helper fixing and replacing both toilets. I appreciate their quick response when my toilet was leaking last week. It is nice to have senior citizens well served and the discount is appreciated. Very pleasant and knowledgeable plumbers. I love my two new toilets! My next door neighbors use your company and I decided to follow them!

We had an emergency situation when we detected a leak in our basement and Thomas E Clark came right to the rescue. Our technician, Gene, came straight away to fix our leak on a Sunday. He was extremely professional and knew exactly how to handle/ fix our situation. This was the second time we have called on Thomas E Clark and I want to highly recommend the company. They are an honest and hard working team!

We have been using Thomas Clark Plumbing since we lived in a co-op in DC in the 1980s. They have a deep understanding of older homes in the DC area. Our most recent experience was to have them replace a defective (obsolete) shut-off for the water supply line to our failing refrigerator ice maker. I called them in mid afternoon and had a plumber at my door by 4:00 pm that day. The plumber was friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. He replaced the shut-off in less than a half hour and saved me from a flooded kitchen! They're the best!

Plumbing companies that offer efficiency, fair dispatch fees, and technical competency - especially for old buildings - pretty rare. Thomas E. Clark is now by go to plumber. Forever. The office staff answered immediately and listened, actually listened to my request. Old buildings are not the same as newer construction. Totally different set of skills and experience needed. Their service fee of $99 is applied to the job if you accept their estimate. This is rare. Chris was extraordinarily knowledgeable, neat and very quick.

No one in the history of home ownership wants to hear the words "your boiler needs to be replaced". No one. But after 30 years our gas boiler had finally given up the ship. And lucky for us friend had recommended Thomas E Clark to us a couple of years before. They are professional, efficient and they explained exactly what was needed. They installed the new boiler, took the titanic relic away with them and cleaned up the work site. Fabulous. Courteous and professional staff!

I called Thomas E Clark to fix my A/C after it stopped working. They offered to come the day I called (Monday) evening which was great, and asked for a $104 overtime charge rate in addition to any service provided. It seemed fair and I agreed. The person came and fixed a clogged pipe quickly. When I looked at the receipt ($~450), I noticed that I was also charged for an overtime rate on the service.
So overtime charge, and then additional overtime rate which turned up to be 30% more. This I was not told. Few days later, the A/C stopped working again. So I called the same company and they said they will send someone, but again are asking for an overtime charge and an overtime rate. I agreed thinking that if they will come back to fix their work they may not charge me again.
The new technician said he is diagnosing a new problem, this time with the A/C unit wiring, and will have to replace the wires. He did replace them and got the A/C running again, and charged $~600 for the service. He also recommended that in the long run I should add protection to the wires and he will send me a quote. The next day, the A/C stopped working again.
When I called the company, they claimed that it is because I haven't added their wire protection and it is my fault (even though this is not something that the technician said is necessary immediately and definitely did not imply that the A/C can't work for even 24 hours without). With that approach, and while I should have insisted they come and fix the problem without charging me, I decided that enough is enough and I will take the sunk cost and call another company.
The other company came the same day, fixed a completely different problem and added refrigerant all for less than 400$ and A/C is working flawlessly since. Will not call them again.

I recently had Thomas E Clark replace my HVAC units in my house and detached garage, After a thorough examination and explanation of our needs we were off and running. Everything went as explained, areas worked were clean units are working great. From the first call to the final follow up everyone was very professional and responsive. I will definitely use them in the future and highly recommend Thomas E Clark to anyone in need!

We have used Thomas E Clark before, and so I called them to service a toilet. They came the next day, when they said they would. Davon was totally suited out in protective gear: face mask, gloves and booties for his shoes. Turns out we needed a new toilet, and he had one on the truck! He replaced ours immediately, left a totally clean space and was out the door in an hour. I call that excellent service, at a reasonable price. Thank you, Clark!

If Thomas E. Clark Plumbing can get you in a situational corner, they'll take you to the cleaners. They charged us at a rate of at least $877 per hour. They might also walk off with your property like they did ours. For same-day service of (1) a leaking faucet-sprayer hose and (2) a clogged drain, they charged us $1,509. They said they didn't have the right fitting for a new hose, so the only solution was to replace the entire faucet for $999.
They said it would take days to find the right fitting, leaving our tenants without a working kitchen sink for who knows how many days. That was the situational corner they got us in. While the leak stopped if the faucet was off, a good landlord needs to keep their tenant's utilities working. Unscrupulous contractors know that and will exploit it.
According to HomeGuide, you can expect to pay "about $125 to $170 per hour when you need emergency plumbing services." For 1.5 hours of work, Clark Plumbing charged us $1,509. Given that the awful faucet they installed to fix a hose leak retails for $193, their rate was at least $877 per hour! On top of that, the Clark plumber walked off with our higher-end kitchen faucet that he removed.
According to him and our tenant, its only defect was that its replaceable hose sprung a leak. He never asked if he could take our faucet, and not being on site ourselves, we were not able to notice and stop him. I'd have assumed that, like other contractors, he'd leave any of our property he worked on, or ask if we wanted it to be disposed of. Instead, on his own volition he decided our property was at his discretion.
That work was done on a Saturday evening (Dec 21), and I called within 24 hours asking them to return the faucet. I was told they disposed of it. However, given that the county dump was closed the entire time and that Sunday trash collection is unlikely, it seems improbable that it could have been irrevocably disposed of. Moreover, it's impossible to believe a plumber would not be aware that he was walking off with a perfectly good higher-end contemporary faucet that only needed a new hose.
My second call back on Sunday, asking how they could have irrevocably disposed of it on the weekend was not returned. Thomas E. Clark Plumbing are bandits with a wrench who ripped us off in every way they could.

Terrible service and rude staff! Sent a very ill employee to fix air conditioning. Had my husband try to help him do his work. Said he was sending another employee out same day but we were told otherwise by the manager of Clark. He wanted to send back the same ill employee the next day. When I complained, he hung up in me. Horrible inconsistent service over the past 2 years.

I really wanted to work with this company based on reviews and a recommendation. I tried to reach them 5 times. I hoped to schedule two appointments. One for a home furnace repair and one for an HVAC audit. My first call someone said they couldn't schedule me, but someone would call me back within an hour. They never did. I tried calling two more times, but their phones weren't working. So, I chatted with someone online, and submitted an online request for service. Still, no one called me.
I finally reached someone today. They said I would have to pay "over time" if I wanted anyone out to our house within a week. They gave me a 12:00-4:00 window on Thursday. I asked if it could be 12-3. The answer was "no, you could do earlier if you want to pay overtime." I told them to please convey to someone there that I was flexible with them and I regret it.
I would go work with Cropp Metcalf instead. I can't say the people at Thomas Clark were rude, but I can't say they were helpful. They waisted an entire day, and added a headache to something that should have been pretty easy.

I just had Clark plumbing install a new showerhead and kitchen sink. I supplied the showerhead and sink. The cost of labor for 50 minutes of work came to over $450. I was stunned. I learned they don't charge by the hour any more but by the job. And their prices are off the charts. I used to use them regularly years ago when their prices were high but reasonable. Now I would not recommend them to anyone who has even the slightest concern with cost.

Our previous awesome HVAC guy, Mr. Saini, retired, and had recommended Thomas E. Clark. Absolutely great experience with their HVAC side. The tech (Daniel, I think) worked hard at fixing both HVAC zones after the house was hit by lightning. It took a couple of days, some sleuthwork, and extra parts, but he had us at a comfortable temp before the outdoor heat kicked up again.
He was professional and pleasant, really seemed to go above and beyond in at least making us feel cared for, but also in making sure the job was done well. Our insurance reimbursed everything, which I took to mean they found the charges to be reasonable. We were also pleased with the plumbing work. Our sump pump was taken out by the same hit, and the plumber (Efren, I think) had us up and pumping again right away. (And our insurance covered all of that too, so reasonable charges, I presume.) He also found a leak in our powder room sink and did a beautiful job replacing the hardware and caulking around it. The price for the hardware he had on hand was quite high, though is lovely. I actually love my sink hardware now. Efren was friendly and seemed to also work hard.

Disappointing. After doing plumbing work, they reported that both my hot water heater AND my furnace would not turn back on. After spending a long time to figure it out without success, they broke the glass window out and lit it by hand, leaving an open hole with a flame behind it. This visit cost $1100 and they didn't get to the hole in the drain line I had first called about which still leaked.
The next day, their furnace expert charged another $69 to clean and inspect and announce my furnace's "mercury switch" had died and I needed a completely new furnace for $6700-7300. (Both it and the water heater were fine before their visit.) In the end, I fixed the furnace myself by simply vacuuming a piece of rust out of the pilot light nozzle that was apparently interfering with it.
And the alleged mercury switch? It and the furnace are working just fine again. What's worse, I called to get credit for the furnace visit, wrote a long email that same day explaining why, and mailed a letter a week later.all without a call back or response of any kind. This tells me alot about their interest in customer concerns. It also makes me wonder how many old ladies and homeowners who are unable to inspect their own furnaces end up getting "up sold" new equipment that wasn't really necessary.
One last thing. I called my furnace manufacturer. They were surprised at the price quoted. They noted that their distributer sells a replacement unit with the same exact venting valve configuration as mine (making installation very simple) for $1995 delivered. This puts the $7300 quote in perspective.

I recently had Thomas E Clark replace an HVAC unit and they were great, just as they were when they replaced my water heater last year and when they replaced some ancient pipes in my house a few years ago. They never try to sell me "up" and they present the facts and the costs in a reasonable way. I read some reviews and it is true that they are more expensive than most companies.
I attribute this to the fact that they are very reliable, punctual and prove a comprehensive service which includes being attentive to keeping your place clean when they haul things around AND cleaning everything up on their way out of the building. They also sent two technicians for every job I have ever requested - one of them is generally an apprentice whom they are investing in training - and I like that the company is investing in future employees, given that this trade can open doors to so many people from less advantaged backgrounds.
My technicians today were Daniel and his side-kick/apprentice was JB. They did a great job fitting a new HVAC unit into a small space. I have never had a problem with Thos E Clark aside from one time, which they immediately rectified at their own expense. Their customer service is amazing. They don't want their customers to have to call them - seriously, even their telephone "hold" music message tells you a few ways you can fix some basic problems yourself at home.
My new HVAC unit has three fail-safes to prevent flooding and a number of ways built in to diagnose my own HVAC problems. I didn't ask for that, but that is just so typical of this company. I really like them and encourage you to spend the extra money to get peace of mind with real professionals.

This is a review of Thomas E Clark's plumbers. I had a leak in my shower faucet and called TEC to come out. They removed a broken "cartridge" which controls the shower/tub faucet. They said a new cartridge had to be ordered. However, they left my shower with a gaping hole in the wall where the faucet is supposed to be, and without any running water (I could turn the water on manually and it would just shoot out of the wall, I guess).
After that, TEC did not provide any info about when my part would arrive (which was apparently ordered in a batch, so perhaps I wasn't the only customer left in the dark). At one point I called them and they did not know if the part would arrive on Friday, or on Monday (so maybe I wouldn't have a working bath or shower for 3 days, or maybe 6 days, who knows?).
At another call they had apparently scheduled an appt. without telling me and without the part having even arrived. Every time they didn't have info about something, they said they would "call me back", which I'm convinced now was just to get me off the phone. They apologized for the issue a week later however, at the time, Thomas E Clark did not seem to care that they left a customer's job half done without any information about when they would come back. Very unlikely to call them in the future.

I'm not quite sure why this place is getting such high marks. I called to ask for pricing to replace the shut off valve to a toilet. This is a pretty standard repair and although I could probably do it myself, since I have to shut-off the water to the whole condominium, I want to be sure it's done right the first time so I thought I'd hire a plumber. Anyway, they charge $99 to come to the location and then charge by the job (not by the time).
When asked what it would cost to replace the shut off valve, which is a pretty standard job, they said they couldn't quote me a price until they came to view the issue, which would cost me $99. There is no reason to come see a toilet shut-off valve replacement. This is a simple plumbing job which doesn't require a view. In the end, they quoted me a price after I questioned why they would need to see what the cost to replace a toilet shut off valve. Overall, bad customer service and over-priced.
