Two Vanderhyde technicians arrived on 1/24/22 to install the generator. Later that evening, I returned home, I was alarmed to see that instead of having one VanderHyde vehicle in my driveway, there were 6 vehicles and at least as many employees. I immediately inquired as to what happened and was informed that when the technicians were performing some sort of connection on the outside of our home, the electricity was still on resulting in a very loud electrical explosion and that the electrical connection and wires to the house had blown off and were laying in the yard. Fortunately, no one was injured.
The technician alerted me that he had reported this to Consumer's Power as there were live wires in the house and no electricity to the house. I emailed Vanderhyde a list of affected items (From the explosion) the next day and requested compensation for the following damaged or non-functioning items: CD/radio, power strip, television and garage door opener (~$771).
I also expressed concern that the AC and sprinkling system could be affected but we would not be able to determine that until spring. We are disappointed and frustrated that after paying VanderHyde over $12,000 in cash, half of which they received more than 4 months prior to installing the generator, that they will not demonstrate accountability for the damage they caused.
We feel that a total amount of compensation of $771 we are requesting is fair and reasonable but could increase once the AC and sprinkling systems are assessed in spring. We are also questioning if the technicians who installed the generator were not qualified to do so if they did not properly turn off the electricity prior to performing the work which could put them at risk of significant harm or death and subsequent homeowners at risk of severe damage to their home.
Now that it is spring, we have discovered that the Sprinkler control panel was fried during the explosion. As expected, Kevin Vanderhyde is declining accountability and refusing to pay the $1312 damages. Luckily, our Air Conditioner was unaffected. We found out from Cascade Township that Vanderhyde did not complete the last step of the mandatory process for generator install in Cascade township.
Per Cascade township (CHIEF ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR), Vanderhyde is required to request township inspection after installation of the generator. Additionally, Vanderhyde should have involved Consumers energy to turn off power to the house, prior to the generator being installed in January, and asked Consumers to restore power after the work was done.
They did not involve Consumers for either, thus resulting in the electrical explosion. They did not complete the Consumers energy steps, nor did they complete the inspection step and it has been 5 months since the work has been completed.

$995 to replace two outside outlets (one GFI) and weatherproof boxes - probably $60 in parts and it took less than an hour. They told me the cost before they did the work, and I approved it because I needed to have it done. I don't know if they're taking advantage of the pandemic or what the reason was for charging a ridiculous amount. I called to try to understand why it was so much and hoped there was a mistake somewhere (the invoice shows a single line item for $995).
They only responded with boilerplate talking points and couldn't explain why it was over $900 more than the cost of the parts (again - it was less than an hour or work). The "price breakdown" they sent separately didn't actually provide any cost breakdown and was completely useless. I've used Vander Hyde many times over the years and they are always friendly and professional. However, I'll be moving on to someone else.

Our water heater had a slow drip. We called Vanderhyde to come out and look at it. They do not do quotes over the phone and it's an automatic service fee to come out. To replace the water heater ranged from $2500-$6500 for very little value between each package. I went for the middle of the road bronze package. After about a week my water smelled like rotten eggs.
It is an easy fix for any homeowner but they made my hot water heater unaccessible to add any disinfectants. It required them to come out. I feel this was done intentionally so if needed they would get additional service calls. They told me exactly what I needed done to remove the smell but would not give me a quote over the phone. They don't offer anyway to talk to the technician and offered me no solutions to make it right. Not a good value, poor customer service and install is set up for only them or a professional to do any kind of maintenance.

I work for Bethany Christian Services in Kalamazoo and Thomas, the HVAC Tech is absolutely the best guy for the job here. He knows the system, and is here within a day to take care of any problems we may come across. I highly recommend Vander Hyde for all you needs, Plumbing VAC Electrical. Very nice man. He was polite and finished the job effectively. He was on time and I appreciate the service. Gary started on time and worked until almost 9:00PM. He did not stop until the boiler was in perfect condition he was always personable. I cannot tell you beautiful everything looks. Thank you for your help. It was worth every penny.

I called on a Saturday morning. My call was directed to the person on call. I received a return call a short time later. Instead of making a trip to our home that would have been rather costly, I spent over one half hour talking out the issue with him. He asked numerous questions that helped me locate the source. The issue turned out to be unrelated to electrical issues. I couldn't be more pleased with the professional experience. Vander Hyde Service will have my business in the future.

They replaced our furnace but we had problems right away. They replaced a bad something then when they came out the next time and charged us almost $1000 for a problem they did not fix, we called an independent hvac person. VanderHyde did not level the furnace and the condensing water ruined the circuit board. New gut fixed it an it has been fine since. Vanderhyde also wanted to replace all the ducts for another $1000. Said it was part of the problem. NEVER using them again.

Home stand by generator needed serviced. They covered general questions I should do and inspect about the generator for long term use. Performed all maintenance on the standby generator, and worked cleanly and made sure not leave trash, debris or anything behind. Even though they were there for the maintenance, I requested to have the generator panel checked and found I had open breakers, and wired additional breaks for the well and additional lights for the next time the power goes out that the home can continue functioning as nothing happened. Reasonable price for service call and parts, plus additional labor and materials.

Had a pipe burst during the night. Called Vander Hyde for an emergency repair. Dustin was here within an hour and had everything fixed in no time. He also answered a few questions and helped me locate some shut off valves that I didn't know where there. Dustin was very polite and professional. They are lucky to have such a great employee. Will defiantly use them again for any plumbing issues in the future.

Jeff came out and took a look at our 50 year old boiler that we had plans to replace in the spring, he looked it over to verify everything was functioning and not dangerous. Then he advised that if we were planning to upgrade that we should wait to do any invasive maintenance as we should roll that cost into the new boiler. He saved us some money by being honest and upfront about the cost of the service and how we would be best suited to let it ride until spring. Jeff was great to work with.

Two technicians came this morning and did the annual generator tuneup/maintenance. They introduced themselves, and I think one was named Jacob. I appreciated that they phoned first to tell me that they were on the way. It was 12 degrees this morning, and they worked in the bitter cold. When they finished, they stopped to tell me what they had done, and explained to me the things I can do to keep an eye on the generator and help maintain it. I was very impressed with these two young men who were very patient and helpful. Thank you for sending such pleasant and qualified people.

An evening furnace failure in late December is a nightmare, but Vander Hyde couldn't have been better! Gary got back to me quickly, was upfront about the potential costs, and was at the house within 2 hours. A really great experience (as furnace failures go), and I can't recommend them highly enough!

Karl was courteous and professional and got the job done in just over an hour. I was not anticipating a $400 charge for an hours work and little to no materials. I was thinking more in the $200 range. Is inflation hitting the electrical services to this extent? I think this should be explained more on the front end. Service: Repair outlets or switches

Jacob did a decent job for what he could do. He replaced the refill valve in the toilet, but only could replace half of it because of the type of the toilet. Seems like a rebuild of the lower half is needed to get rid of noise. Not going to happen soon. As long as it keeps working it's going to have to do. Service: Repair toilet

We had multiple technicians from various companies come to look at our plumbing issue. While using Vander Hyde I was informed when making the request for a visit that I would be charged 89 dollars for the visit. I was okay with that, due to the positive reviews that I saw. However, I did not know that after 15 minutes of the technician being on-site that I would be charged an additional 93 for a diagnostic charge, and then was not offered the option to complete the job that day. Also, the quote was almost double what other service providers were offering.
We ended up going with another company and when I realized that I was charged this amount from Vander Hyde I called to gather clarification. This was a difficult process and was refunded 26 dollars for the loyalty program, but not for the additional charges, and was asked to talk with a manager, and was never contacted back. I called 2 weeks later, and finally spoke to someone regarding this.
No additional refunds issued. Each person including the technician were professional and kind. However, I would make sure you are aware of the additional costs associated, and how much higher their services are in comparison to other providers in the area.

Anthony was kind, professional, and did a wonderful job. I am especially thankful for his help with the home warranty process! Jacob Connette came to fix my gas water heater pilot last Monday, and he was incredible as well! He is very thorough and professional. We've been having an issue with our water heater for 2 years, and he finally was able to fix it!
He even drove back to the company warehouse to pick up parts to fix everything in the same day, even though it was at the end of the workday. We really appreciate his hard work!

I had a technician come out to my house to service my furnace because it wasn't running. After doing some diagnostic work, he came to the conclusion that I needed roughly $1,800 in parts and that didn't even include labor. I decided to get a second opinion because that is a lot of money. The second technician came out and discovered what the problem was in less than five minutes.
My gas valve wasn't set correctly and just needed to be adjusted. I have called this company twice to speak with someone and each time I was just transferred to a voicemail. This company let me down majorly and left me without heat because their technician isn't properly trained.

Everyone we called was going to take two weeks to get here, then a friend called Vander Hyde and made the appointment for us. for the next day! How great is that? Pretty great. But then they called a few minutes later to tell us they were going to try to get someone here that day instead! Ultimately that "same day" upgrade didn't work out, but if there has ever been anyone that deserves credit for trying, its Vander Hyde. When they arrived the next day they were friendly and informative and in the end successful. Who could ask for anything more? I'd give them six stars if I could.

We had original cast iron sewer pipes that were breaking down after over 60 years and needed to be replaced; we also needed some other minor plumbing work. We received an estimate from Bill at Vander Hyde, and arranged to have the work done. Jake and Jake worked on the project for just over one day. They did excellent work and cleanup (see attached photos).
I needed one last-minute addition to the proposal specs, and Jake was flexible and got it done. Our sewer should be good for another 60 years. I recommend Vander Hyde's quality work. We have used them for various plumbing tasks over the last 15 years.

I have used Vander Hyde for the past 10 years to service my furnace and AC because it was under a 10 year warranty. (the poor quality York system and constant problems is not the bases of this review). First the technicians are great and just follow ownership direction. They always fix the problem. My issue is the outrageous charges. The following is from my memory because they did not leave any documentation.
My bill was $967. I understand the $79 trip charge, the $69 for diagnostics BUT $75 to go and get the parts? They said I need 3 parts: Burners (5), Hot surface ignition and Flame sensor. I found two suppliers on-line they would charge me anywhere from $121 to $176 for the parts. Based on these retail costs, I estimate that Vander Hyde charge $550+ for one hour labor to install these parts. My advice is shop around or do it yourself. GP

Unbelievably unresponsive. It has been almost 5 weeks since the technician came to my house, and not ONCE in that time have they reached out to keep me in the loop, even after promising to do so. I have had to call them myself to initiate every single piece of communication, and every time they have said something along the lines of "I will reach out to the technician and get back to you by the end of the day" and then not once have I gotten a return call. Everyone that I've spoken with has been pleasant enough, but that doesn't fix my broken equipment.

My furnace had been cycling on and off during the morning start up. When they came to service and/or diagnose the problem, they brought two technicians and neither was wearing a mask. They spent about 45 minutes checking out the furnace. They said the furnace was over heating and tripping out the safety switch. They determined to fix this we needed to have the furnace cleaned ($200), the evaporators cleaned ($200) and the fan motor replaced($500).
They gave us a quote for the work and charged us $167 for their "diagnosis". We called a different HVAC contractor, he came and fixed the real problem in about 1/2 hour and changed us $65.

Had used Vanderhyde in past for furnace repair and then an air conditioning install had received excellent service with fair pricing. Decided to use them to hook up new dishwasher and new sink last week 8/7/19 and was given what I considered a ridiculous price of $980 to hook up both even with the over $100 in parts I supplied them with but because I had gotten such great service before I said ok. Took them 4 hrs to install and one guys was just a runner basically for tools because he was new apparently but later on in evening I discovered they had drilled a hole in finished ceilings in room behind the area they were doing install in.
They must have known they did it because they left the drill bit on my new carpet on floor and never said a word to me before they left my house. I was here and listening and watching work upstairs whole time and he asked guy 3/4 times in lower level if he could see him drilling through and guy said no and he went down to look but never said a word to me that he did damage in another room.
I called and left message that night, no return call. Called after 2 days and girl in office said she needed to talk to guy that did install and would call back. Waited and called again on 8/14/19 now get smart mouth girl that says send pictures and we'll get back to you. Sent pictures and now waiting again. At this point I would never recommend the company again and I was very quick before to do so because furnace and air conditioning were so great in past but clearly plumbing side is very bad and dishonest side of company

I am Very disappointed with the services I received through this company. The HIDDEN fees are crazy. I understand the $79 fee to come out but I was never told of a diagnostic fee that I would be charged to actually do the estimate, that was another $88. So for them to come out and spend 5 minutes at my home would have cost me $167. When I called to ask why I wasn't at least told about another fee to expect, the lady told me that everybody's fee is different depending on the job so they just don't include that. Withholding information like this is dirty business.
Feeling trapped in their fees, I did choose to allow them to do the work and now I am left to repair some accidental "nicks" that were left on my ceiling. There is now a nickel size whole randomly in my ceiling. I wasn't compensated for those holes, just basically was told sorry. The last upsetting thing was that one of the guys peed in my toilet and left it there.
This is disgusting and unacceptable. I would not recommend Vander Hyde to anyone at this point and plan on telling my friends. I hope they are more honest and upfront in the future.

Avoid at all cost. We had trouble with our furnace on a Sunday. Saw their ad in our church bulletin and called. They said they would be there at 2 and at 4 said we will have to wait until tomorrow. When they did show up they said they were training an employee and when the bill came they charged double labor because of two reps on site. They would not budge on this charge at all and threaten to file collections against us if we did not pay immediately.
They also slapped their company logo on every piece of ewuipment they could after we said no to them doing so. Have 5 stickers to remove. After emailing the owner about the issue I got a response saying that I was an a-hole and a Catholic hater because od a review I posted about them. Please avoid this company.

Great service from these guys. Residential sales associate Matt K came in and gave us a quote and it took us over a year to pull the trigger on it and they honored the same quote still! I was very impressed with the professionalism of the crew and appreciated the punctuality and cleanliness of the guys. They installed an entirely new HVAC system in our rental home and I couldn't have picked a better outfit to handle this work for us. They took the worry out of making this huge upgrade. For that I am thankful and can only give the highest marks. VanderHyde is our go to for any service of this kind.

I've used VanderHyde for years. However, this month my boiler had issues heating all the zones in my house. I called them and they sent out a repairman who did a few things, declared the problem fixed, charged $170, and left. I got home that night and my house was frigid. I called back and they said it would take a while for the heat to catch up.
About 10 degrees colder and a couple hours later, I finally went to hotel with my kids. I called VanderHyde and they came out the next day with the "boiler expert" who did, indeed, fix the problem. They charged me ANOTHER $660 for that repair, with no credit for the useless work done the day before. I asked for a refund of the $170 and they refused to provide it. I'll never use them again.

We've used VanderHyde before (about 4 times) with overall good results. Not this time. They quoted $335 to unclog a blocked sewer line. After about 2 hours of trying they gave up and said we needed very extensive repairs. I called Ryan's and for $263 they cleared it in an hour with no problem. Had I listened to VanderHyde I'd have spend thousands unnecessarily. Even though they didn't clear the line as quoted they charged me the full price. I will not be calling them again.

I called them to do a $79 check up. It was 2 weeks out, in the meantime my AC stopped blowing cool air. He changed it to a service call. He quoted over $900 to fix. Long story, shortened. I told him I had to talk with my son and would maybe be calling him. Got my nephew to fix it, it took him 1/2 hour and the rep was going to charge$290. Not to mention one of the parts was marked up 6 times the cost. Very expensive!

I scheduled an electrical service call due to a fan light kit that stopped working suddenly. It seemed like a small, fixture related issue but I didn't want the inconvenience of trying to DIY a repair. The brain for the fixture's remote control went out, so the electrician disconnected it and now the lights work with manual operation (pull chains and wall switch), but the remote is dead.
The end result is that the light is functional now, so the electrician did "fix" the problem. The two star review is because I was charged for a time increment while the electrician was lost or trying to find parking at my building. Stuck to his guns about the charge when questioned. Being nickeled and dimed on these kinds of things for such a minor, quick fix will never lead to a great review. Enjoy the extra $27, I'll call someone else next time.

Thankfully, (knock wood) I haven't needed these guys for service very often. Buuuuut, every so often our home throws a temper tantrum and rebels against us. That was the case this morning when we awoke to a very chilly house and a furnace that refused to turn on. I called the number, at 445am, 90minutes and $160 later I have heat. We have used them for backed up plumbing twice, both durning regular hours and on an emergency basis.
Every time we use them we are pleased with the professionalism of their techs and the quality of our repairs. If you're ever stuck on a 7* day and no heat, call VanderHyde. If your plumbing backs up into your tub, call VanderHyde. If you need a new AC unit installed, call VanderHyde. If your old thermostat stops talking to the furnace. You get the idea :) They're very quick and very good. Absolutely satisfied every time with this company!

If ZERO STARS were an option that's what we would rate this company! We called to have an AC tune-up. The service technician was very arrogant and belittling, and after he left the AC was working even worse than before he came. He also tried to sell us a new furnace and water heater even though they still work fine, especially the water heater which is only 7 years old!
My husband called that day and spoke to the tech's manager and was told they would call him back, but here we are 2 days later and still no call! We will never use this company again and we'll warn everyone we know not to use them.
