Almost everyone has one. Most people don't burn wood anymore due to the mess so it comes down to either vented or unvented gas logs or a direct vent fireplace. Older homes were built with a wood burning brick fireplace. It is fairly easy to install either vented or unvented gas logs. You run a gas line from the natural gas meter or LP tank into the fire box and hook your logs up.

The technician refused to wear a mask when I politely explained due to concerns about my work with high-risk patients. I know it is a weird time, but I am in my own home and need to feel comfortable and every single other company that we have had to our home for the last year and a half have always come with a mask and asked our preference. I am mostly just annoyed with myself for not canceling the appointment after that.

Air conditioning wasn't working properly. Called them, they sent someone out within 2 hours. The technician figured out what was working, quickly fixed it. Explained to me in easily understandable language what went wrong, what he needed to do, and then he did it. Cost was reasonable and the issue was resolved. This is now my go-to HVAC company. PS to owners: whoever you sent to my house (I didn't catch his name unfortunately) is a keeper!

Had slow leak in shower. Wes from Guirkin came on time, quickly found and fixed the problem. Felt price was very reasonable. Would recommend.

Called to replace a hot water heater. They installed and literally anyone without experience could have done better. The overflow line was soldered crooked putting stress on the pipe, and the brand new heater cover was burned through by the soldering work. I called and sent pictures and was ignored. Terrible work. Terrible customer service.

This is my 11th year using Guirkin for my fireplace gas logs install / maintenance. My plumber was not available for a service call so I called Guirkin. They were accommodating, professional and responsive. They fit me in the very next day and arrived during the early morning slot. Wes maintains my gas logs & I was excited to know he would be repairing my leaky kitchen sink and replacing the faucet. I realize everyone's experience is different, varying situations, etc. But, my experience with this company has always been positive.

I called Guirkin out due to water damage in a downstairs ceiling. I showed them the exact bathroom that was causing the damage. They looked it over and said they would need to open the ceiling up to figure out the issue, which they charged me $90 for. After they left I was able to self-diagnose the issue was an unsealed hot water nob that was allowing water to run down the wall and behind the nob, into the the wall/floor cavity. They could have and should have found this with minimum effort. Maybe I just got a lazy crew but I am now using other firms for my plumbing needs.

I was recommended by a neighbor to use Guirken for plumbing work. I filled out there online form and receive a call back the very next day to come and make the repairs for a quoted price. I was actually impressed with the response time. The tech that came to the house was respectful, but made excuses about the replacement faucet that I was using to for my kitchen sink.

Not only did I have to do some of the work, he had to redo the work because it wasn't working correctly during demonstration. This caused him to be at my house for a longer length of time. I also wanted the tech to review a toilet that I had replaced the insides for. There was a small leak and I couldn't figure out if I had not tightened the bolts enough.

The tech tightened the bolts and recommended that I get a whole new toilet because I used generic parts. When I received the work order, I was being charged $100 more than I was quoted. It was explained to me that was because of the time it took to make the repair and the cost to tighten the bolt. Instead of making a big deal out of it with the tech, I contacted the office the very next day and asked to have someone call me to discuss.

I explained that the tech was extremely nice, but wanted to understand the breakdown of the work order. I was advised that someone would call me back. The next day I received a voicemail from Tommy that was extremely condescending. Specifically that I wasn't specific enough about the brand of faucet that I was using to replace the existing faucet.

Also that they needed to be compensated for the time that the tech spent at my house. I immediately called Tommy back and attempted to speak with him about my point of view of the repair. He didn't want to listen at all to what I had to say and ultimately said that they did a great job and there was nothing left to discuss. After that interaction, I would not recommend using Guirken at all for any plumbing repairs. They are not customer oriented and just lost a potential long term customer. Also, the toilet is still leaking.

Update: Owner responded with incorrect information. Two techs didn't come to my house, only one did. I even helped him with the install which I paid for. Also, paid for extra time that the tech spent here because he had to install the faucet twice due to the hose not retracting properly. Also, the faucet was not "used". It did have an LED piece to it that the wiring was bad.

I didn't care about that and only wanted the faucet installed as it was better than my current faucet. This was communicated to the tech during the install. All parts were in the original packaging and attachment hardware was in plastic. Owner didn't specifically ask me about make and model of the faucet that I wanted installed during the call to set up service.

I guess I was supposed to tell them that without being prompted. Warning.if you are going to use Guirken, please be ultra specific in your requests for quotes and be prepared for condescending remarks from the owner. From reading other reviews, I am not the only one who experienced this.

I recently had a very difficult to find propane gas leak which required 9' of new pipe under the house and next to the foundation on the outside. Wes and his assistant did an amazing job of finding it and replacing the pipe in the rain! I highly recommend Guirkin.

High points for politeness; however, the lowest for Quality. These service men came to my house because my fireplace was giving off soot. They charged me $540.00 for new parts and the soot continued. The fireplace had only been used about 6 times (which indicated it was virtually a new fireplace). I contacted someone else after complaining to the owner and he simply indicated "these things happen." The 2nd individual I contacted simply made a few minor changes and no more soot. I would not recommend Guirkin for fireplace although they advertised they have experience in that area

Recently had my annual fireplace inspection. On time, received a call when the gentleman was on the way. Removed his shoes, placed floor covering over the carpet to make sure, during the cleaning process, nothing fell on the carpet. Will definitely use them again.

Brad B. came to our house for our "fall tuneup." He explained everything he was doing in "layman's terms" so we understood exactly why he did what he did. He explained how the "burners" came on in our gas furnaces, warmed up a bit, etc., before the air handler started to push the heated air through our vents. He was ably assisted by his helper, Charles. So, as always, Guirkin came through for us. We wouldn't consider using anyone else but Guirkin for our plumbing and HVAC work. Mary & Tom B. of Midlothian

We needed our gas fireplace repaired and asked Guirkin for a quote. When they called my husband, the woman was extremely rude to him. She did not ask him any questions or ask our availability. She simply told him that they would come out on a specific date and how much to expect to pay. She did not ask if that date worked with him. I believe that customer service is key to a business and we will not move forward with this company for that very reason.

I have used Guirkin for years, but no more. Their employees and work is no longer professional. If you use them be sure to avoid Andy. He was sarcastic and rude in his responses to my concerns about prior work. He had installed a toilet that was too big for the space and had broken the baseboard heater. He told me that was all that was available acknowledging that it was too big.it is quite obvious the toilet is jammed under my radiator.

His solution was a smaller one, but that it was not the right size. You mean to tell me a plumbing service has two toilets available to install in one's home? Really? I then had a leaking shower head installed a couple of weeks ago by Wes. He had to tell me how wonderful he was. That also had to be corrected. Please, just save yourself some time, and find another plumbing service. Plus. they have gone up considerably on their pricing.

I'm very disappointed with my experience. I had difficulty getting an appointment scheduled. When I called, the lady had to take my number and promised to call me back. I did not receive a call back until the next day and then the appointment was not for two weeks. Today, three hours prior to my appointment, I received a call from the lady and they had to cancel because the technician was sick. Instead of rescheduling for this week, she pushed me to the end of November. I am truly disappointed with how I was treated as a customer.

Andy Guirkin went above and beyond to help me in the knick of time with my AC unit which already had water backing up in the overflow pan, soon to start leaking through my kitchen ceiling if the problem wasn't fixed ASAP, and not to mention my unit wasn't cooling properly! To top it off, it was a holiday. No one wants to call for a home repair on a holiday!

He came right away. He fixed the problem. He did not charge a crazy holiday rate. Good people do exist in the business world. Trustworthy, kind and competent. I am so grateful and I highly recommend this company.

Guirkin's plumbers are fast & thorough. They have done a couple things around our house and I've been very pleased with the service, communications, quality & pricing. I like that I can speak directly with the owner if I have an issue, and they remember me when I call in. Give them a call, support local business!

Excellent service at a fair price! I called on Tuesday and they committed to service between 1 and 4 on the next day. Received called Wednesday at 12 that technician was on the way. The technician was dressed professional, affable and very accommodating. He took his shoes off so as not to track in the house. Also, their customer service person was very nice.candidly most of the other companies I called sounded like they would be doing me a favor, very cavalier. Also, their van was very cleaned with a "knock out" painting scheme. They have a A+ rating on Better Business Bureau and Angie's list.old company with "old school" values, refreshing.

My AC went out during a stretch of 100 degree days. My husband's mother had died the day before, and so we had family coming in from out of town to stay with us. I called Guirkin at 7:00 AM and left an "emergency" message with their answering service. At 9:00 AM Tommy Guirkin called to tell me someone would be here within the hour. By 11:30 AM the AC was fixed, and my house was already cooler.

I can never thank them enough for saving the day during a very difficult time for our family. We have used them many times before for both plumbing and heating/AC issues. I appreciate their friendly, knowledgeable technicians and great service, and I highly recommend them.
