Alex came to do my annual check up on my four a/c units he was very polite very business like and stayed focus the whole two hrs-3hrs he was here. I cannot say enough about what an outstanding tech he was. I believe he was new at Strand Brothers. If this is the quality that Strand Brothers is hiring today they should be very proud of themselves. I will continue to use this company.

I did my research prior to scheduling my appointment and knew that the average cost to professionally fix a leaky faucet (depending on the problem) would be around $150 - $300. While I was informed of/agreed to Strand's "standard" cost of a faucet cartridge replacement ($479), I couldn't waste any more time/water/$ to decline the estimate and wait to schedule with a cheaper company.
The receipt I received for services provided was not itemized - just a straight up $479 charge. In doing my research, a replacement cartridge costs at most $60. The time of arrival to departure was all of about 30 minutes - 15 minutes of labor (by an apprentice) and 15 minutes of upselling other services. So, 15 minutes of labor by an apprentice for $420.
The cost of this service call doesn't add up in terms of 15 minutes of labor and one $60 replacement part. To top it all off, the shower was still inoperable because the handle was cracked and no replacement handles were available in either of the service trucks. I did express my dissatisfaction to Strand's customer service department - but I have yet to receive a response. Hope this review saves someone some money - as there are more competitive/fairly priced companies out there.

Terrible, terrible, terrible! Technician came over identified the problem but refused to start work until he gets paid (who ever heard of getting paid *before* the work starts?) AND wouldn't take payment from my tenant! From what I was told I believe this is borderline discrimination. Left a message for the manager A.G. but he didn't return my call or email. STAY AWAY

An 89 year old relative, on hospice, had her AC stop. We had stopped using Strand years ago because they would always try to upsell us to new equipment etc., but, after the mom and pop HVAC company we've used the last decade or more retired, we thought we'd try them again. First, when you call Strand, you have to deal with people who answer the phone and ask for endless information as they try to sign you up for special memberships. Then, they seem confused when you try to schedule and appointment.
After endless attempts, it seemed we had it a tech coming ASAP. Some hours later, a tech called during a moment my wife could not answer the phone but she called them back within one minute.to be told to call the main number.and have to go through the entire "freakin'" process again. After some hours, we tried to call back to see what was going on.
Same deal. Apparently the people who answer any of the Strand numbers work at home and then can only forward the data taken in on a form to the "office." You are not talking to the office. On our fourth desperate attempt to call to see when someone might come, the lady said we had cancelled our appointment. Bull#%^t. We never cancelled. Once again, we answered the same litany of requests for data, told them it's an emergency elder health issue, and "crickets." It's now 6:30 PM and its 100 degrees, and we've heard nothing. OK, around 7:00 PM a personable tech arrived.
He said he thought the unit had a refrigerant leak and recommended we schedule a specialist for $480 to find such leak. He added two pounds of refrigerant to the 6 year old Mitsubishi mini-split, charged for the service call and $152 per pound for the refrigerant and again focused on selling us special memberships to allay future costs. The bill was over $500. With a frail relative, what do you do. Tomorrow we'll look for an honest mom and pop service for future assistance.

Called for an emergency fix. was told someone would be out the same night. waited a few hours and called back. was told there were 3 calls ahead of me. waited 2 more hours and called again to be told o was being rescheduled for the next day and would be called at 8am. in the morning I called other options and was scheduled. I called at 9:30 to say never mind. I understand there are other people ahead of me but a call when I'm told I would be called the next day would be appreciated on a 100° Texas day.

06/2022 - While the tech did fix my AC unit, they are untrustworthy when it comes to pricing. Turns out it was a bad capacitor. I was charged $398 to remove the panel and unscrew the clamps to the capacitor and replace it. It took a total of 10 minutes. After the technician (Billy) left, I looked up online at the cost of a new capacitor. The same exact one was listed at $25.
I feel like I got violated! Highway Robbery! How are you going to charge someone $398 for a $25 dollar part and 10 minutes of "labor"? Price gouging in full affect here! BEWARE!

Alex Rodriguez with Strand Brothers was awesome. He came to my home yesterday and quickly got to the root of the problem with our AC unit. He took the time to explain how the problem was created, and how it could be prevented from happening again. He also called attention to things he knew would come up in the near future based on our unit along with an idea of what they will cost.
I really appreciated the time he took to educate us overall. When something breaks, it can be hard to listen to what needs to be done without thinking people are just trying to get more money from me. I didn't feel that way with him, and the fact that he educated us about future concerns will help me trust him and this company in the future as well.
I signed up for the annual membership on the spot solely because I trusted him and felt like he was really there to help me and not just trying to finish a job and get home. He was honest, genuine, and professional. I will ask for him specifically in the future, although if he is any indication of the level of expert and professionalism the other techs have, I am sure I would be happy with anyone. Thanks!

Strand responded immediately in a time of crisis - AC stopped working during 97 degree summer day. I called 2 different companies prior to Strand and they were no help. Strand had Alex out here within 3 hours of the call. He was professional, kind and so knowledgeable! He had it fixed in under an hour at a very fair price. I highly recommend Alex and Strand!

For a few years, I have been meaning to write this review, because I verbally unrecommend Strand Brothers at every opportunity. A few years back, a tech came out because our AC was not cooling as much as it should be. That tech said that there was absolutely nothing that could be done, showed us that the system was now not cooling at all since he arrived, and that we would have to purchase a whole new system.
Fast forward to the next day (did I mention it was August?), and a sales guy came by to talk to us about a VERY VERY expensive AC system. He was VERY pushy, and completely appalled that we wanted a second quote. Needless to say, we sent him on his way so that we could get a second quote. Lo and behold, a guy from another company came out, looked at our unit, and let us know that the previous tech had turned the unit OFF, and that he could make a simple fix ($200). Basically, the Strand Brothers tech had turned off the unit, made a big show of how it was only blowing hot air now, made us sit in an un air conditioned house for 30 hours, all in preparation to make us desperate before their sales guy came and gave us the hard sell. Called and asked to talk to management, sent in emails, no responses. Shady business practices. NOPE. NOPE. NOPE. Stay far, far away. As other reviewers have mentioned, they were OK many years ago when they were locally owned, but are complete scammers now.

It's almost summer and certainly an awful time to have issues with the a/c. It was over 100 degrees yesterday and my a/c decided to not cool properly and my house was climbing in temperature. I've purchased my last 2 a/c units from strand brothers so I gave them a call right away. They were able to come on a Sunday and in less than 24 hours from my call.
The technician Alex Rodriguez showed up, diagnosed the issue, and was able to get my a/c back up and cooling. Alex was incredibly friendly and it was obvious that he's an expert at his job. Alex was great so if you need help, ask for him if possible.

Don't use these guys. They vastly overbid me on a full plumbing replacement after spending only 5 minutes at my property. Then, after I asked that they return for a proper inspection with a camera, the price they named for that service was also crazily over priced ($900). The technician that came out that time didn't explained anything about why it would cost that much.
Another local small business (a reputable local plumber and his apprentices/laborers) quoted me 2/3 of the price Strand Bros named for the full replacement and less than 1/3 of the price they named for the camera inspection. Your dollars will go much further if you do deeper research and find better, fairer contractors locally.

DO NOT pay for a membership with this company. It's been 48 hours of no heat. They say they will call and do not, we watched their tech on camera show up and leave a note without trying to get in to do the work. DO NOT use this company. When we ask for a manager, there is not one available, we were told we would get a call from one and have not. Unimpressed.

We needed major work done on our home in central Austin. All our pipes needed to be replaced as well as a new hot water heater, HVAC and ductwork. I got a number of quotes from reputable companies around town. Strand Brothers had a competitive quote. Curtis (for plumbing) and Adam (for HVAC) were both personable and patient when going over the quote and the job details.
When it came to each job Curtis, Adam and Nick were all amazing. They were easy to reach, efficient, and had great crews working with them. Everyone was respectful of my time and my home. Both jobs were completed and there were no hidden fees or price hiking.

We needed two showers fixed with parts being replaced and a new water filter system installed. Nick & Curtis were punctual, polite, efficient and showed respect to our property. Both were good humoured and kept is informed throughout the process and were pleased to answer my questions. Next time we need plumbing work done, we know who to call. Highly recommend.

Not a great experience. Our AC unit stopped functioning and we needed a technician to come out quickly. The first tech told us that the issue was a blown fuse and that we should just replace it ourselves. When this didn't resolve the issue, a second tech came out and told us that everything with the unit was wrong - blown fuses, board was fried, compressor was dead.
I told him I thought the unit was still under warranty (and it was) but he insisted that my next step was to talk to sales about buying a new unit - major red flag, so I called another company for a second opinion. I also asked both techs for an email invoice with their notes which they never sent - although they were quick to send an email asking for a Yelp review and to sign up for their "premium" subscription maintenance program.
The only reason I'm giving them two stars instead of one is that the second opinion confirmed that the compressor and board both needed repair - although at a much lower price and under warranty instead of pushing me to a salesperson. Heed the reviews and go with any company other than this one.

I've been with Strand for many years - they serviced our old system and put in a new one when the time came. Its been mostly good service, but you do need to stay on top of them to make sure they do the work properly and don't over charge (seems the techs are on commission for ad-ons). I scheduled our 2x year maintenance visit and got the email confirmation upon booking and re-confirmation yesterday. Today, a complete no-show.
I called the number in the email and it went to an off-shore call center. Zero help. Called the local number and did speak to someone who told me "the appointment was booked incorrectly - so sorry, but we can't come out. how about 10 days from now?" Really? Just know what you are getting into. I guess I will call them next time and speak to the local office to book and re-confirm. Annoying.

I needed a new HVAC and my consultant was Alfonso, he did a marvelous job explaining differences in systems for me. I was given options no pressure and top notch customer care. We set up for installation and the crew was timely and amazing taking care of the installation and my home. My suit is a step 2 so very quiet and efficient! I was hesitant to sign up for a service plan monthly via Strand, but it's been paying off in spades. Not having to deal with trip charges makes evaluating an issue a lot less stressful. Recently we've been having a number of water and plumbing issues - Issac and Gari have been my go to plumbers, as they really go above and beyond to make sure everything is well and good. They're very kind, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. Definitely recommended!

Agree with some of the other comments, this is NOT the Strand Brothers company that we have relied on for decades. Business practices are much different! We signed up for the yearly service for having our ac and heaters serviced in the Spring and Fall, to make sure nothing is wrong, we called in Feb to set something up in March for the AC to be check out, March comes and goes and nothing, we call set something up for April, because March was filled up. April comes, no one shows up, called Strand Brothers and found out the call was canceled, April is filled up now, have to wait until May. Have very low expectations that they will show in May. It pains me to say this but, Save your Money and find a more reliable Company, to work with!

We've been using Strand Brothers for years, and recently their level of service has gone down significantly. I pay for their advantage program and have recently had repeat issues with both plumbing and HVAC resulting in them charging for issues that have not been resolved. They're difficult to get a response from, and have no care for customer service. I would not recommend using them.

We booked Strand a week in advance to be here to relocate a drain on a shower being installed. The two guys that showed up said they only did emergency service on Saturday and left. They also qoated an outrageous price. We had to scramble to find another plumbing service to step up and do what Strand could not. We previously had a water leak and Strand responded to our search for a plumber and charged $1400 to cut a hole in the wall and replace a valve. I would not recommend them for any plumbing work. You can get it done a lot cheaper and have a better customer service experience anywhere else

Warning to long-time loyal Strand Brothers customers. This company is NOT the Strand Brothers that many of us in Austin have relied on for decades. Strand Brothers was acquired by "Service Experts" some time ago, and the "Service Experts" business model is very different than what many of us valued in the Strand Family's company. After enduring a 7-month nightmare with a "Strand Brothers Service Experts" failed installation of a top-of-the-line Lennox HVAC system, I finally was left with no choice but to ask that they actually come remove the equipment from my home, which they did, but not until after the manager yelled at me on the phone-- completely unable to maintain or regain his composure to continue the call in a professional manner.
After 8 service calls (6 in the very first month after install), it was clear that the Service Experts team was not adequately trained to solve the problem that led to two flooded closets and 6 incidences of total system failure in the first month alone that left me and my guests in a very hot house in the 100+ degree August heat. When two system failures happened again in January. this time leaving me in a COLD house, I knew it was time for me to recognize that I had made a mistake, and to part ways with Strand Brothers Service Experts.
Last month, I started over with a truly great company in Austin called Alamo Austin Air. They installed a new system for me without a hitch, and their customer service reminds me of the kind of care and attention I used to get from the Strand Brothers team before the company was acquired. The Alamo team is so well-trained and knowledgeable that they were even able to uncover the wiring problem that likely led to the 8 system failures from the Strand Brother Service Experts install.
If you are a long-time Austin resident like me, and you had your trust in the the Strand family business for decades. be aware that, sadly, this company is most certainly NOT that company any longer.

Our tech was Alex Rodriguez. He was extremely knowledgeable, courteous and professional. He not only got us back up and running in a timely manner, but also gave us a thorough explanation of what he repaired and why. Afterwards, he gave us some suggestions on how to improve the heating and cooling in our home. We couldn't have asked for a better tech. He obviously takes pride in his work and it shows. BEWARE! I really warn you guys against using Strand brothers to do any sort of repairs or to get estimates. These guys are not trustworthy. Check the reviews, including the additional 300 or so negative reviews that are under not recommended for a true picture of how terrible strand brothers really is before you commit to them and find yourselves out thousands of dollars.
Back in May, TXU was doing a promotion for a free tune-up of AC systems so I signed up for that and it was done through Strand Brothers. Once they came and took a look at my HVAC, the rep said this AC is pretty much dead, surprised it's still working and made a bold statement stating that it'll be surprising if it even turns on after they leave.
So right off the bat that's pretty suspect. My first thought obviously is if they did something to make it stop working but I didn't say any of that. Instead I listen to his sales pitch, he tried to sell their advantage program, which is a monthly subscription for the rest of time which apparently will save money or I can replace the system starting at $8,000. Lol.
The rep took me outside to look at the unit and showed me that there are black spots at all these places which means that the system is almost fried and it's it needs to be replaced immediately. So they gave me the information and left without doing any tune ups (whatever the hell that entails). After they left I went ahead and called another company that has been refered to me and he took a look at it and said there's absolutely nothing wrong with the system.

Great service by strand brothers plumbing team! I've had my tankless water heater for five years now and have never been able to get instant hot water downstairs. Multiple calls to the installer, Mr. Tankless, did no good. I got so fed up with this company i stopped calling. Today on a regular maintenance call i mentioned the issue to strand brothers. They looked through my manual, got on the phone with the manufacturer and fixed the issue. Big Thank you to Josh, Issac, and Gari!

Scam artists! Asked Strand to assist with a pretty simple repair job. Tech immediately - without inspecting equipment - told me we probably need a new system and that they "have great deals right now". A few minutes later tech told me there was nothing that could be done short of buying a new system. I paid the tech and told him to leave and I. would get someone who knew what they were doing. Strand tech left my Nest and wiring in a state of disrepair.
A competing firm arrived later in the day and repaired the issue with a board swap in 30 minutes for 5% of what Strand suggested the repair would cost. Never again - their techs are unskilled, rude, and lie to force the purchase of a new system. Deeply unpleasant and frustrating experience - $99 to have an unskilled tech lie to my face.

We sprung a massive water leak, and had no idea where it was. We saw no outward sign of where it could be, but kept having bigger and bigger water bills and got nervous. We called another plumbing service who initially quoted $6,000 to dig up the entire yard to locate the leak. Concerned about such a high cost and fretting, I decided to do a Google search for affordable plumbers in the Austin area.
I came across Strand Brothers and gave them a call. The appointment person was very polite and made appointment for us from 8-10am. Andreas showed up promptly for the appointment wearing a mask and social distancing to protect us. He was so nice! We told him of our problem, so he looked along the water line and in less than 10 minutes told us "I found your leak." I was shocked at how fast he found it!
Then he quoted us a fraction of what the first plumber quoted since he knew exactly where to dig! They completed the work today and the leak is GONE! I am SO HAPPY I FOUND STRAND BROTHERS!! Thank you Strand and especially to you Andreas for being so nice all the time and fixing the leak so fast, saving us money, and to your wonderful apprentice (I didn't get his name; I'm sorry!)

Thats easy. Carlo is the type or person that makes this world a better place. He was thorough, he presented thd the facts in a concise manner and spoke clearly and communicated effectively. And thats just for starters. Carlo stood in ny home and not only educated me on my system but helped me remember that I am a good person and that everything im fighting for in this life is worth it. I have used Strand Brothers for almost 10 years. They have installed and maintained the major heating cooling and plumbing features of my house. When something goes wrong they come to fix it quickly within 24 hours of my calling. They have saved me money by showing me how to repair and use items for a longer period of time. Their service representatives are very polite and knowledgeable. They are a dependable company.
