Don Rackler
Owner
Don Rackler is a native of San Antonio. He learned the air conditioning and heating trade first at Harlandale High School in the early 1970's, then in the Local Plumber's and Pipefitter's union. He started his first air conditioning company in 1986. Through his hard work and foresight, this company became one of the most successful residential companies in all of South Texas. During the HVAC consolidation trend in the late 90's, his company was much sought after. He sold the company in 1999 to spend time with his family and pursue other interests.
In February 2001, with a fresh perspective and a desire to build an even greater air conditioning company, he opened the doors to Jon Wayne Heating and Air Conditioning, which has become San Antonio's largest residential heating and air conditioning company specializing in repair and replacement services. Today, his company employs 22 N.A.T.E. Certified technicians and has received the Bryant Medal of Excellence in 2006, 2007, and 2009.

This company has been totally unprofessional and unresponsive. 3 months ago my husband and I purchased a completely new AC system from this company. This past Sunday our AC went out due to the outside system not being ground correctly. We called several numbers when it went out, but didn't get a response until Monday morning. A tech was able to come out Monday afternoon.
We were initially told that they'd be able to replace the broken unit on Wednesday, but then got double booked and rescheduled for Thursday at 8am. However, they did not show. I called at 9am and 11am and was told both times the team was loading up. Then i was told that due to unforeseen circumstances that team couldn't come, and that another team would be by when they finished their current job.
If you're going to spend money to get a new AC, just spend it somewhere else. Their customer service here is unsatisfactory at its best. ***Update*** Jon Wayne reached out to me regarding this review and we were able to discuss everything that went wrong. They were very nice and professional regarding the communication errors that did occur, and did take steps to help resolve the fact that we went so long without AC.
While I am still upset with how things are handled. I am impressed with the care that was shown in response to my issue, and eventually the problem was resolved. The customer experience I experienced after this review was professional, and I do hope that issues like this don't occur in the future.

My recommendation is that you discuss price up front, before sitting down for several hours with this team. Have them lay out their system prices at the very beginning so you are better informed. Very professional company that is well-informed and "dressed to impress". I've had several quotes from different companies and Jon Wayne took the most time to do a thorough review of my systems before getting down to the business of quotes. Lionel and John were experienced technicians with over 10 years with the company.
Unfortunately they drove 1 and 1/2 hours to my house, took two hours to review and discuss my systems, and then drove 1 and 1/2 hours back to their office when their work could have been done before even stepping out the door. When they arrived at my house they asked a very simple question, "How much are you willing to spend?". My response was "if you tell me I need to spend more than this much, than I'm going to go with another company", an honest statement.
After their extensive discussion, their lowest price for their most basic system that they offer was 20% higher than the price I stated. Their top of the line system was 4 times the price I stated. We could've saved a lot of time. But, if money is no object, I would certainly recommend them as they most professional and thorough outfit that I have met in my research.
The positives that they have as a company just did not justify the increase in cost. I am still reviewing all of the options out there, so who knows, maybe in the end they will be the choice.

Jon Wayne missed two consecutive appointments. However, when they finally got to my house, the technician was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. He explained everything that was going on as I watched and asked questions. **Update** Within a couple hours of submitting my review I was contacted by Jon Wayne Service Co. and asked to clarify my concerns regarding my service request.
During the call, in addition to an apology, the company was most concerned with what could be done to address all of my concerns to complete satisfaction. After a short discussion we reached an agreement. I am totally impressed by any company that addresses their customer's concerns quickly and professionally. Jon Wayne Services certainly fits in that category.

Adequate job based on needs for sell of home. The duo was professional and quick. They made an array of recommendations. Only feedback I have is they left my back gate open (we have dogs) and the ripped plumbers tape seal on my back yard pipe, removing my splitter. That wasn't necessary and fortunately there doesn't seem to be damage to the line. It's important to leave things in the condition you found them. That said, they were courteous enough to ask to use and move about other things which was appreciated.

Wonderful people, very kind. Jackie came over and checked everything to let us know what we needed. He put us in contact with Tony and Chris for our Air Conditioning and Electric panels and they walked us through all the options and information that they could provide. They answered our questions patiently and didn't rush us. When the teams came out to redo our panels, they provided a generator to keep our pet snake comfortable during the cold day they had. Absolutely would recommend this company and these kind people to friends and family that need help with their home.

Although these guys are very busy they continued communicating with me about arrival time. Once on site, the plumber was courteous, professional, and explained everything he was going to do. I appreciated he was wearing a mask the entire time and put on Booties to protect my floors. He attempted to clear our shower clog with chemicals and once that did not work he used a power driven snake. He cleaned up and did not leave a mess. He was also nice to the family cat. Great plumber, great company, would highly recommend!

I contacted Jon Wayne last week to schedule an estimate for appliance install, and their office called the day of the appointment that they were running behind, and couldn't give an estimate of when they'd be able to show up. I waited all day, and recieved a second call that they were trying to get someone as quickly as possible. I kept waiting, and eventually a third call came to inform me that they wouldn't be able to make it that day, and asked if I could reschedule for the next business day.
That day came, and I woke up to a call from Jon Wayne that they could have a technician en route immediately who would arrive in 30 minutes. It took closer to an hour and a half, but the technician did arrive. The plumber who arrived was polite, professional, willing to explain things in lay terms, and was quick to assess the work. He called in to the central office and returned with a quote for the work, plus several additional ($$$) quotes for additional work he suggested also be done.
I passed on having Jon Wayne Service Company complete the work, as I've gotten cheaper quotes from several of their competitors. When I told the technician I wouldn't be using Jon Wayne for that reason, he insisted that Jon Wayne did the best plumbing work in town, had a warranty that couldn't be beat, and showed me a picture of equivalent work Jon Wayne had done at another site.
I understand plumbing is a skilled trade, but the costs for labor are astonishingly high, given that the basic install quote was more than triple the cost of the appliance I was looking to have installed. Overall, I appreciate the professionalism of the plumber, and would recommend Jon Wayne to someone who could afford several thousand dollars of plumbing that they were incapable of handling on their own.

Had our HVAC system installed about a year ago. It went well. We had our first issue with the AC not working. Tech came out and repaired no problem. Second issue was when our heater caught fire. Long story short it was due to an apprentice wiring our furnace. They went the lazy route and used existing under sized wire along with installing the connection behind a wall with no junction box.
Time after time asked for a manager and was told they don't have a manager. Come on now, everyone has a manager. Scheduled an ac tune up as part of our package which was never done in the year. Scheduled another for a Saturday and no one bothered to show up. My wife and I have missed several days of work and we now own a backup ac window unit and portable heaters for when our year old system decides it wants to stop working or kill us.
The last phone call was fun, manager is on the other line, so we wait. Then manager isn't at his desk. All in all I feel I made a poor decision choosing this company and would not recommend to anyone I care about.

I paid $179 for a tune-up, but actually got a life lesson instead. After a month of rescheduling due to their high demand for the summer (which is understandable), a technician came to my home to tune-up my 3 year old AC. I ordered the Ultimate Tune-up which included inspection, coil cleaning, 1 lb of refrigerant, and AC compressor saver. A deal listed at $179 and valued at $400.
The tech introduced himself, laid a mat on the porch, and put on some booties over his shoes. I thought I made the right decision just by how courteous and respectful he was to me and my home. The tech was in and out of the house inspecting the unit for about 2-3 hours. He seemed thorough with the inspection and took pictures of his findings. During the inspection, he notified me that one of my heating elements was bad, the coils needed cleaning, and there was rot caused by water damage to floor of the air intake.
I went to look at the flooring and saw the damage. The damage was apparent, but the floor appeared dry like it had happened some time ago. This is when the up-sales began. The tech came up with his proposals and recommendations which left my head spinning. The 1st proposal started at approximately $8,000. It included services, membership to their club, and warranties.
Of course, financing was available for 120 months. I asked if he could trim the fat based off what he said I needed and that dropped the price to $2,000. During that time, he stated he didn't see a point to clean the coils due to rot. I almost folded to the price, but scheduling caused me to back out the work. The tech swiped my card for $179 and left even though I didn't receive half of what was mentioned (cleaning or compressor saver).
I wondered if I did or didn't do the right thing so I called a private contracted tech and showed the pictures of the inspection. The other tech stated I could/should be able to do this on my own and gave advice on how to do it. I went to a local home improvement store and purchased the materials needed to get the job done. $200 and 6 hours later, the job was complete and AC is working great.
I'll end this point by mentioning I am not an expert or do I encourage anyone to do any work on their own. I anticipate a response that will attempt to "sell the benefits" of going with this reputable company and that is fine. I'm sure their work and products are exceptional. For those looking for a direct approach and avoid these overhead costs, I suggest getting 2 or 3 quotes before deciding if these benefits are for you.
The first 2 pictures will show the work that would have cost $2,000-$8,000. The last will show my completed work. Update 08/06/21: I was called by Jon Wayne's client care manager and issued a full refund.

My AC stopped working last night and all I had to do was make a call to the company where I spoke to a young lady named Alexis who was very efficient and professional who immediately set up an appointment for today. As I'm writing this review I have a very attentive and courteous young man named Bryan servicing my AC. He explained very well the problem and he is now working on it.
Thank you JON WAYNE and staff for being so conscientious to the customer's needs and taking time to explain what repairs need to be done. I'm definitely referring the company to other family members and friends in need.

Talk about amazing service - called this morning at 7am and Not only did someone pick up the phone, a technician came out this afternoon. Zeke went above and beyond fixing my heating issues but also explained everything he was doing and why..... this is what customer championship is all about. Jon Wayne Service has a customer for life - thanks for practicing what you preach

Been a long-time customer and continue to receive top-of-the-line service. The Rescue Club Plan has been worth every penny and has saved us a lot of headaches over the years. While our old unit went out after 13 years, I’m excited to see this new one in action. The whole Jon Wayne crew has been fantastic, most recently Justin W. and Jason C. It’s a challenging conversation to have to talk about financing a new unit, but both of these guys humanized the process and showed the kind of expertise and care that has kept me as a Jon Wayne customer for many, many years.
