When we purchased our house several years ago, we priced A/C units from different companies (current one was old and we are proactive). It included an air purification unit. Burkholders' price beat the other companies so we used them. After about a year, we had a problem with a pipe running from the new A/C unit to the house and issues were added that made that not a good experience. We've had BH guys during covid come to our house unmasked, without booties (we don't wear shoes inside) and it delayed getting work done and it was annoying.
We considered switching to a different company for a yearly contract, it got that messy for us. We stayed with BH and hoped things would change or we'd change companies. In 2021, we asked a yearly maintenance fellow to check on the air purifier in in our attic. It's common placement around here. Guys have to go through a bedroom closet. Unfortunately, it's also not atypical - our last house (diff. state) had an entrance to the attic through a bedroom closet and people went up there without complaining.
Last year in the summer, the BH guy said he wasn't going to check on it leaving the impression that there was no need to. Later, when Jeff Carr came to check on the heating unit, Jeff went up to the attic and said the filter needed to be replaced next time (as in this visit). I ordered it in advance with his filter info. Yay, Jeff Carr was the fellow who came back - masked with booties and was prepared with his ladder to replace the filter. He's great and assured us we can ask for him for all future visits.
He also said to replace the filter yearly. No other guy from BH told us this and I don't know why but that's not good. But now, I'll keep one handy for yearly maintenance. In the past, I wouldn't have recommended Burkholders (hence no review and I was frankly too annoyed to even write a bad review). I'd ask for their policies in advance and ensure the guys come prepared.
It worked this time. We now have a service fellow we trust. He made all the difference in the world for us and we are thankful. Jeff Carr gets 5 stars, so BH, please keep him.

We needed our AC condenser moved so that we could install a deck in back without having to build around the condenser. Burkholder's schedule was very full, but they sent a team out quickly to disconnect and move the unit so the deck crew would not be held up. And then a few days later, they returned to install the condenser in its new location. We have been happy customers for probably 20 years now.

We contacted several places to get quotes, and Burkholder's was far and away the most professional. Everything before we signed the contract was done the right way, and the one time after the installation where there was a problem --- on a Sunday, of course -- Burkholder's sent someone out to fix it that day. I would knock half a star off because (1) someone unplugged our downstairs refrigerator during installation and didn't plug it back in before they left, (2) according to the repairman Burkholder's sent to fix our Sunday problem, some part in the pump had too much lubrication and came loose even though it had a clip on it to keep it in place.
We wound up with a large puddle on the basement floor. If that's a known problem with parts from the manufacturer (and they do need to keep it oiled to prevent corrosion prior to installation) then they could have done something about it during initial installation. One more note about (1): as soon as I told someone from Burkholder's about the refrigerator being left unplugged, she immediately asked with concern, "Did you lose anything?" Anyone can make a mistake, it's how you handle the aftermath that makes a difference, and she handled it well. Absolutely no hesitation in referring someone to Burkholder's over any of the other HVAC companies we contacted for quotes.

Burkholder's was very helpful from the folks who spoke to me over the phone and set the appointment to the technician who came out to provide service. When making the initial appointment, they were booked out about two months in advance. Over that time, I got a call a couple times to check in when they had a cancelation to see if we could sync up earlier. Unfortunately, those opportunities didn't work, but when the schedule date came, the technician, Jeff, was terrific.
We have an old heating system of steam radiators in each room. Having never had this form of heat before, Jeff was careful to explain how to properly use, monitor and care for the system. Very satisfied

Burkholder's was the perfect fit for what we wanted with our HVAC system replacement. They had the system we wanted, listened to our concerns, answered our questions, and installed it the way it should be installed. Oh - the price was the best out of the several quotes we requested. The work was done quickly, quietly and professionally - we hardly knew the install team was there! We're now 3 months in with our new system and the monthly savings are consistently around 40% to 50% what we were paying. We could not be happier with Burkholder's!

Can't say enough about the professional service I received. I had new central AC system installed in my home. Setting up the estimate appointment was timely. David took time to explain the different options. I always get 3 estimates at a minimum and Burkholder and 1 other company were very competitive. The other was way out of the ballpark. I selected Burkholder because when looking carefully at the proposals I was getting the higher end AC unit and air handler compared to the competitor at the cost estimate.
As for the install, the install team was great. They arrived on the appointed dates and times. The crew was highly professional and you could tell they took pride in their workmanship. They completely cleaned up the work areas and attic install was neatly done. Kudos to Burkholders.

We called after realizing our heat wasn't keeping up with what we had it set at when the weather started getting cold, dropping 20 degrees. They let us know that they already had schedules for that day but could come in the evening and asked if we would pay extra if we wanted them to come that day. Mike came around 5 pm and stayed about 2 hours troubleshooting the system and determined that the boiler wasn't working correctly and needed a part.
He was very polite, professional, and explained the situation in layman's terms which we really appreciated. He had another appointment after ours so he had a late night. The office ordered the part the next day and Mike came the following morning to install it and ultimately fixed the boiler and the heating problem. We had a great experience with Burkholder's and Mike. Now, we're very toasty!

We just put an air conditioning system on our old home 2 weeks ago and everyone who came to do the job were polite and professional. They eliminated most of the mess which is saying something! They worked under extreme heat up in our attic and did a fantastic job. They also did it in the time allotted. Kevin and Garrett deserve extra kudos- thank you

Spent $6400 on a new AC system. A week after installed, it stopped working in the middle of the night. Luckily had the installer's personal phone number and when he came out the next day discovered that a drain plug was not installed and the pan accumulated water until the shutoff switch engaged. If I did not have that number I would have had to call and talk to all these morons who man their phones. The salesman on the account essentially could have cared less. Use this as a lesson -- you have to get some kind of reliable contact info before you commit.

Have nothing to do with these people. I called on Sat on a long weekend on the coldest days of the year when my 7 year old furnace died. We are an older couple and the response I got when I called was that the scheduler was leaving in an hour and they did not have anyone who could help. She said that she would put me on the list but could not say when or if we would get help.
We never heard from them again. Prior to this we needed a part and it took three phone calls to remind them to order the part. Two weeks after the part was installed the furnace died despite the fact that the technician who installed it said the furnace was fine. This firm does NOT care about their customers. We called Lande but Buckholder's has recently acquired Lande. We were told that the service call would be 95 dollars, but didn't realize there would be an additional one hundred dollars charged to us on the spot by the technician for "staying an hour" (the shortest hour in the history of house calls). WE will NOT be using Buckholder's again, but if YOU do, make sure that they explain to you, on the phone, before their people arrive, what it will cost you in excess of the 100 bucks you have already dropped just to get them to show up.

Very disappointed with the way they operate when you need to call them for an emergency service. They tell you that if they come after a certain time they charge more (which I understand completely) but they tell you it doesn't matter WHAT TIME YOU CALL.that's an easy way to scam customers.they can lie to everyone all day, and tell everyone that they can't get to them until later.just to make more money.now other companies if you call before that special time they honor the cheaper price even if they come late (bc you called before that window) manager was rude on the phone.just go with another company

This review is mostly to recognize the excellent customer service of one member of the Burkholder's team. I had central air conditioning installed in my 102 year-old-home in May and to say it was a difficult job is an understatement. I had an overall good experience with definite bumps in the road, as to be expected with such a complicated install. However, Justin Zelinsky, Burkholder's "Residential Senior Project Manager" went above and beyond to make sure I was completely satisfied.
He was thorough, timely and overall committed to making me, as a customer, happy. I only hope that the company recognizes and pays him for the top notch service he provides customers. My review would not be 5 stars if it were not for him.
