Geothermal Heating and Cooling is often referred to as Geo-exchange, Geothermal, or Ground Source Heating and Cooling. They all mean the exact same thing, so don't get confused by these names being interchanged. Geothermal heating & cooling is not to be confused with a geothermal power plant. A geothermal power plant generates electricity using the core of the earth - we are not referring to this, ever. We are talking about using the crust of the earth to heat and cool a home or building; there is no lava or electricity generation involved.
As the seasons change from spring to winter, temperatures fluctuate throughout the year. Some climates can range from blazing summers to chilly winters; Holton included. Did you know there is a pretty consistent temperature, regardless of climate or season, just below the ground? The Earth's crust absorbs 47% of the sun's heat (energy) and is maintained in the ground a few feet below the surface.
Let's look at the financial case of replacing an aging 13 SEER air conditioner and 80 AFUE furnace with high-efficiency conventional equipment versus upgrading to a WaterFurnace geothermal heat pump. If you're shopping for new HVAC equipment, it's probably because your existing equipment is nearing the end of its useful life or you're building a new house.

When the installer decided to put the temp control on an unfinished wall we questioned it. Then when we finished the wall the entire system crashed. They cane for a warrantee call and ended up charging us 180 dollars. They said it wasn't covered by warrantee bc it was an electrical problem. That's absurd. I have never seen a company less professional and unaccomodating. A problem caused by a lazy installer and we had to pay for it. I do not recommend using Ground Source at all!

I can recommend many other ways to spend your money. Perhaps a new pickup truck. If this company sold pickups, be ready to find out it didnt come with keys. It may be a few months before you can drive it and if it breaks its your fault for putting gas into it. I wanted to support a small business but they took my check, installed ducts in terrible spots then said it'd be good if i insulated where they cut into the attic. What?
They got me to install things they should have, to run all the water and electric even if the panel was 10 feet away. Couple hundred more. Then a fuse breaks while fixing their screw-up and i get lied to about warranty and a cheap fuse costs another 163. My distaste for the bait and switch is monumental. I also had a worker break back into my place because he left his drill. He therefore locked me out, but the company didnt think it was at all out of line.

Critical: Quality, Value It took 7+ months to get the heatpump working correctly. Hopefully it is. 15 months after installation their plumbing work at the hot water heater started leaking so it is rusting. Not covered under warranty. Apparently only the factory warranty of the unit applies not the work done to install the system.
